Protease is responsible for digesting proteins in your food, which is probably one of the most difficult substances to metabolize. Because of this, protease is considered to be one of the most important enzymes that we have. If the digestive process is incomplete, undigested protein can wind up in your circulatory system, as well as in other parts of your body.

When you take protease in higher quantities, it can help to clean up your body by removing the unwanted protein from your circulatory system. This will help to clean up your blood stream, and restore your energy and balance.

One of the tricks of an invading organism is to wrap itself in a large protein shell that the body would view as being "normal". Large amounts of protease can help to remove this protein shell, and allow the body's defense mechanisms can go into action. It can effectively shrink these tumors by helping to remove the dead and abnormal tissues, and by stimulating healthy tissue growth.

Protease refers to a group of enzymes whose catalytic function is to hydrolyze (breakdown) peptide bonds of proteins. They are also called proteolytic enzymes or proteinases. Proteases differ in their ability to hydrolyze various peptide bonds. Each type of protease has a specific kind of peptide bond it breaks. Examples of proteases include: fungal protease, pepsin, trypsin, chymotrypsin, papain, bromelain, and subtilisin.

Proteolytic enzymes are very important in digestion as they breakdown the protein in foods to liberate the amino acids needed by the body. Additionally, proteolytic enzymes have been used for a long time in various forms of therapy. Their use in medicine is gaining more and more attention as several clinical studies are indicating their benefits in oncology, inflammatory conditions, blood rheology control, and immune regulation.

Contrary to old beliefs, several studies have shown that orally ingested enzymes can bypass the conditions of the GI tract and be absorbed into the blood stream while still maintaining their enzymatic activity. Commercially, proteases are produced in highly controlled aseptic conditions for food supplementation and systemic enzyme therapy.

Bromelain is a protein-digesting enzyme complex derived from the stem of the pineapple plant (Ananas comusus)Pineapple has been used medicinally by natives of the tropics for centuries as a digestive aid and wound healer. Studies suggest that bromelain supplementation may reduce the pain and inflammation associated with arthritis. Other studies show that bromelain may speed healing and reduce pain associated with injuries, burns, and surgical procedures. Bromelain is reported to be effective in treating sports injuries (trauma) as well. One study found a decrease in pain and swelling in 59 patients with musculoskeletal injuries when treated with bromelain.

Bromelain is used to support cardiovascular health by reducing risk factors for heart attack and/or stroke. Studies show that bromelain may inhibit platelet aggregation and possibly decrease the pain and inflammation associated with blood clots; improving some symptoms of angina and thrombophlebitis.

Bromelain is used as a digestive aid for various digestive disorders such as diarrhea, stomach ulcers, gout, and pancreatic insufficiency. Experimental studies have shown that bromelain also possesses antidiarrheal effects and inhibits activity of the enterotoxins Escherichia coli and Vibrio cholerae.

Bromelain is also used in the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections (e.g. chronic bronchitis and acute sinusitis). Bromelain has been shown to have an antitussive effect (cough suppression) and mucolyic activity (reducing the thickness of mucus and bronchial secretions), making it effective in treating respiratory tract diseases. One study in particular demonstrated therapeutic effects in 87% of sinusitis patients treated with bromelain, compared with 68% of sinusitis patients treated with placebo.

Bromelain may provide anticancerous effects by inhibiting cancerous tumors. A clinical study in mice found that bromelain decreased lung metastases of Lewis lung cancer cells. Another study of 16 breast cancer patients also demonstrated the therapeutic effects of bromelain, when treated with an oral form.

Bromelain may have certain immune-enhancing effects and may boost the effectiveness of certain antibiotics. Therapeutic effects in experimental allergic encephalomyelitis patients were noted when treated with bromelain, trypsin, and the flavonoid rutin, in study.

Bromelain may be helpful for women in the treatment of dysmenorrhea and breast engorgement during lactation. Researchers hypothesize that bromelain may have smooth-muscle relaxant effects on the uterus due to prostaglandin modulation.

Bromelain should not be taken by individuals allergic to pineapples, honeybee stings, or olive pollen. Pregnant, lactating women and children should not take supplemental bromelain, unless recommended by a health care provider.

Side effects may include gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and cramping, as well as metrorrhagia and menorrhagia.

Bromelain may enhance activity of some drugs such as anticoagulants (warfarin), antithrombotic agents (aspirin), and antibiotics (amoxicillin, tetracycline). Individuals taking these drugs should exercise caution in the use of bromelain. Bromelain may also have blood-thinning effects.

Papain is a mixture of proteolytic enzymes derived from the juice of the unripe fruit of the tropical plant Caroica papaya, commonly known as papaya. Papain hydrolyzes proteins to form oligopeptides and amino acids. Papain also contains the proteolytic enzyme chymopapain which differs from papain in electrophoretic mobility, solubility and substrate specificity. The molecular weight of chymopapain is approximately 27,000 daltons. Papain is used as a digestive aid. It is also used as a meat tenderizer. Papain has putative anti-inflammatory activity. The activity of papain is expressed in papain units or PU. The assay of papain activity is based on the hydrolysis of casein.

Pancreatin enzymes have two important functions in the body: digestion of foods and routine cancer eradication. Pancreatin is a mix of many different enzymes, and those involved in the digestion of proteins are also used to help eliminate cancers that occur. Cancer is often a disease of protein metabolism because the pancreatin enzyme cancer defense mechanism can be overwhelmed by consuming protein rich foods at inappropriate times or in excessive amounts. The body needs a time span each day approaching twelve hours or more without protein consumption for its pancreatin cancer defense mechanism to work optimally.

Pancreatin enzymes can be made ineffective by contact with acids or alcohols. A diet comprised mostly of refined foods and meats may result in an acidic body chemistry that depletes these enzymes. Trypsin and chymotrypsin, like most proleotytic enzymes, are synthesized as inactive zymogen precursors (trypsinogen and chymotrypsinogen) to prevent unwanted destruction of cellular proteins, and to regulate when and where enzyme activity occurs. The inactive zymogens are secreted into the duodenum, where they travel the small and large intestines prior to excretion. Zymogens also enter the bloodstream, where they can be detected in serum prior to excretion in urine. Zymogens are converted to the mature, active enzyme by proteolysis to split off a pro-peptide, either in a subcellular compartment or in an extracellular space where they are required for digestion.

Trypsin and chymotrypsin are structurally very similar, although they recognise different substrates. Trypsin acts on lysine and arginine residues, while chymotrypsin acts on large hydrophobic residues such as tryptophan, tyrosine and phenylalanine, both with extraordinary catalytic efficiency. Both enzymes have a catalytic triad of serine, histidine and aspartate within the S1 binding pocket, although the hydrophobic nature of this pocket varies between the two, as do other structural interactions beyond the S1 pocket.

The human pancreas secretes three isoforms of trypsinogen: cationic (trypsinogen-1), anionic (trypsinogen-2) and mesotrypsinogen (trypsinogen-3). Cationic and anionic trypsins are the major isoforms responsible for digestive protein degradation, occurring in a ratio of 2:1, while mesotrypsinogen accounts for less than 5% of pancreatic secretions. Mesotrypsin is a specialised protease known for its resistance to trypsin inhibitors. It is thought to play a special role in the degradation of trypsin inhibitors, possibly to aid in the digestion of inhibitor-rich foods such as soybeans and lima beans. An alternatively spliced mesotrypsinogen in which the signal peptide is replaced with a different exon 1 is expressed in the human brain; the function of this brain trypsinogen is unknown.

Amylase, an enzyme having physiological, commercial, and historical significance, also called diastase. It is found in both plants and animals. Amylase was purified (1835) from malt by Anselme Payen and Jean Persoz. Their work led them to suspect that similar substances, now known as enzymes, might be involved in biochemical processes. Amylase hydrolyzes starch, glycogen, and dextrin to form in all three instances glucose, maltose, and the limit-dextrins. Salivary amylase is known as ptyalin; although humans have this enzyme in their saliva, some mammals, such as horses, dogs, and cats, do not. Ptyalin begins polysaccharide digestion in the mouth; the process is completed in the small intestine by the pancreatic amylase, sometimes called amylopsin. The amylase of malt digests barley starch to the disaccharides that are attacked by yeast in the fermentation process.
Enzymes are a class of proteins which catalyse chemical reactions. Unlike nonbiological catalysts such as charcoal and platinum, which often need harsh extremes of temperature and pH, enzymes must work in the mild conditions of a cell in the body, at approximately 40oC and at a pH between 6.5 and 7.5. When compared with inorganic catalysts, enzymes are different in their rate of reaction (often 106 to 1012 the rate of the uncatalysed reaction) and in their specificity, their ability to act selectively on a small group of chemically similar substances. Chemicals changed by enzyme-catalysed reactions are called the substrates of that enzyme, and they fit into the active site of the enzyme, where the reaction takes place, in a lock-and-key mechanism. The products of the reaction then leave the active site, freeing it up for more similar reactions to take place.
Carbohydrates are one of the three major food groups needed for proper nutrition. Amylase is the digestive enzyme needed to digest carbohydrates. It is a well known fact that cancer feeds on sugars, mainly refined sugars like dextrose, sucrose, dextrin, etc... Cancer needs sugar as it's main source of energy which it gets through the blood supply or ultimately by ingestion. An intake of amylase will keep carbs, especially those used by cancer, to a minimum or yield a converted substance which the body will use. Lactase is an enzyme that breaks down the milk sugar lactose into glucose and galactose. Persons with a deficiency of lactase in the gut can develop abdominal cramping and diarrhea after ingesting milk products.

It has been known for decades that cancer cells produce excessive amounts of lactic acid. The fact that most cancers have poor vascular systems has led cancer scientists to assume that such cells are deprived of a normal supply of oxygen. Researchers believe that without sufficient oxygen, cancer cells must revert to fermentation for their energy supply and this is what causes them to produce excessive lactic acid. I challenge this traditional assumption and suggest instead that cancer cells have dysfunctional mitochondria, which prevent their use of the citric acid cycle. Consequently, pyruvic acid, the normal end product of glycolysis, which normally would enter the mitochondria for its total combustion into energy, is instead converted to lactic acid. Evidence exists to support this hypothesis which, when acknowledged, could dynamically impact both cancer research and the treatment of all forms of cancer.

It is reported that cancer cells can produce forty times more lactic acid than normal cells. Many primitive life forms cannot survive in an oxygen environment and therefore derive their energy from fermentation. In this process they normally produce inordinate amounts of lactic acid. Cancer scientists have assumed that since cancer cells usually have poor vascular systems, they lack oxygen and therefore revert to fermentation for their major source of energy. Researchers believe it is the lack of oxygen that causes cancer cells to produce excessive lactic acid.

Since cancer already creates large amounts of Lactic acid it is a good idea keep lactase in the system to break down lactose. Lactic Acid can result from too much Lactose in one's system. Person's with cancer should be careful not to consume too much mucous rich foods such as dairy. Mucous can impair immune response and cause sinus problems.

Cellulase is an enzyme which breaks down cellulose. Cellulose is an indigestible plant polysaccharide. It is the principal constituent of the cell wall of plants. Cellulase has cellulolytic activity, meaning that it hydrolyzes cellulose. Cellulase hydrolyzes the beta-D-1, 4-glycosidic bonds of cellulose. Cellulase enzymes show activity during the ripening of some fruits, where their effects on cell walls results in softening of the fruit. The vital characteristics of this cellulase complex are 1) the system is multienzymatic; 2) at least three enzyme components are both physically and chemically distinct; and 3) all three components play essential roles in the hydrolysis of cellulose to glucose. The assay for cellulase activity uses a method which determines the effect of cellulase on microcrystalline cellulose with respect to glucose formation. Released glucose is determined in a hexokinase/glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase system at 340 nm.

Cellulase is an enzyme that breaks down cellulose, the carbohydrate that is the main part of the cell walls of plants. Cellulose is nondigestible by humans because we to not produce the enzyme cellulase. Cellulase is produced by grazing animals such as cows (with the aid of the beneficial bacteria that reside in the animal's digestive tract), and is the reason why they can get nutrition from plants such as grasses. The human body does not produce cellulase, however, it is available for supplementation since it can help us break down plant material better, thereby getting the most from the plants that we eat.

Chymotrypsin, proteolytic, or protein-digesting, enzyme active in the mammalian intestinal tract. It catalyzes the hydrolysis of proteins, degrading them into smaller molecules called peptides. Peptides are further split into free amino acids. Chymotrypsin is produced in the pancreas as the inactive, or zymogen, form chymotrypsinogen. Along with other digestive enzymes of the pancreas, chymotrypsinogen is carried in the pancreatic juice through the pancreatic duct into the duodenum. There chymotrypsinogen is activated by another enzyme, trypsin, and by molecules of active chymotrypsin.

Together, trypsin and chymotrypsin are also known to be powerful inhibitors of cancer and are considered to be the body's natural "cancer fighters". Scientists at Johns Hopkins and Tsukuba University in Japan have confirmed this. Researcher Paul Talalay, M.D stated that:

"20 years of research confirms that raising the levels of phase II enzymes [glutathione, trypsin and chymotrypsin] can offer a highly effective way to achieve protection against carcinogenesis (development of new cancer)".

This potent inhibition action of phase II enzymes is not hard to explain. Phase II enzymes fight cancers by destroying "trophoblast cells". These cells act as a protective shell to cancer by shielding it from our immune system, thus allowing it to proliferate. Without this protective shell cancer becomes an easy target for the body's immune system to destroy.

Alpha-1 - antitrypsin deficiency is a hereditary disease that may lead to hepatitis and cirrhosis. It is the most common genetic cause of liver disease in children. Adults are also affected and may have lung involvement with emphysema as well as liver disease. The protein alpha-1 - antitrypsin is a substance made in the liver. It plays an important role preventing the breakdown of enzymes in various organs of the body.

A child must inherit the tendency from both parents to develop the disease, alpha-1 -antitrypsin deficiency. The incidence of the disease in the United States is approximately 1:2000 live births. Fortunately, for reasons that are not understood, only 10-20% of the babies born with the deficiency will have liver disease. Decreased levels of the serum protein, alpha-1 - antitrypsin, lead to liver damage with scarring and abnormal liver function.

The disease most often appears in the newborn period with jaundice, swelling of the abdomen, and poor feeding. It may also appear in late childhood or adulthood and be detected because of fatigue, poor appetite, swelling of the abdomen and legs or abnormal liver tests.

The diagnosis is made by blood tests when the serum level of alpha-1 - antitrypsin is low and standard liver function tests are abnormal. Other tests such as urine collection, ultrasound examination, or tests using specialized X-ray techniques may be necessary. A biopsy of the liver (sampling liver tissue with a needle or by operation) is usually performed to look for liver injury. Relatives who are carriers but do not have the disease can also be diagnosed by blood tests.

Currently, there is no cure for this disease. However, certain abnormalities can be treated or controlled. Treatment is designed to maintain normal nutrition, to provide the liver and the body with essential nutrients, and to identify complications early in order to treat them better. Multiple vitamins and vitamins E, D and K are often given. When jaundice is severe or itching appears, phenobarbital or cholestyramine may be used. If the disease progresses, excess body fluid may occur and can be treated with diuretics.

Patients who develop cirrhosis (scarring of the liver) have changes in blood flow through the liver which produce other complications: nosebleeds, bruising, excess body fluid, enlarged veins in the inside of the stomach and esophagus (varices). Occasionally, increases in pressure in these veins make them leak, and internal bleeding may result. Increased sleepiness after eating protein (due to increased blood ammonia levels) and increased risk of infection may be late complications.

The long-term outcome of the disease is variable. Approximately 25% of affected patients develop cirrhosis and its complications, but 75% of individuals will not have any significant liver disease after the newborn period. Some patients with cirrhosis lead relatively normal lives for relatively long periods of time. The reason for this difference is not known. Liver transplantation can be done when liver failure develops and interferes with normal functioning at school, work or in the home.

Proteases, proteinases, or peptidases are enzymes that are essential for all life. They are biology's version of Swiss army knives, cutting long sequences of amino acids (called peptides) into fragments that fold into proteins. Amino acids are common building blocks for all life. Organisms (including humans and other mammals) extract them from their environment (diet) or synthesize them, and link them together to form biological polymers (called polypeptides), and then control their size and shape through a variety of mechanisms to form folded globular shapes, known as proteins. Proteases are essential for the synthesis of all proteins, controlling protein composition, size, shape, turnover and ultimate destruction. Their actions are exquisitely selective, each protease being responsible for splitting very specific sequences of amino acids under a preferred set of environmental conditions. They are numerous. There are over 500 human proteases, accounting for 2% of human genes (DNA sequences that code for amino acids), and similar numbers of proteases occur in every plant, insect, marine organism and in all infectious organisms that cause disease.

Why Are Proteases Important?

Proteases play pivotal regulatory roles in conception, birth, digestion, growth, maturation, ageing, and death of all organisms. Proteases regulate most physiological processes by controlling the activation, synthesis and turnover of proteins. Proteases are also essential in viruses, bacteria and parasites for their replication and the spread of infectious diseases, in all insects, organisms and animals for effective transmission of disease, and in human and animal hosts for the mediation and sustenance of diseases.

In medicine, proteases represent important potential targets for medical intervention because of their important regulatory roles in life. It is now known that single amino acid mutations in over 50 human proteases result in hereditary/genetic diseases, a few of which are Also, other genetic or environmental conditions can result in an over- or under- abundance of a particular crucial protease or abnormal levels of natural inhibitors/activators of proteases, leading to abnormal physiology and disease.

Blockbuster drugs have been developed to block (inhibit) viral proteases required for replication of HIV and are currently the most effective treatments for HIV/ AIDS; others block a human protease (thrombin) involved in blood clotting and are among the most effective treatments for stroke and coronary infarction,; and others blocking another human protease (ACE) that raises blood pressure are among the best treatments for high blood pressure or hypertension. Other protease inhibitors are being developed to treat parasitic, fungal, and viral infections; inflammatory, immunological, and respiratory conditions; cardiovascular and neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's disease, and cancers. Human proteases have also been identified as important prognostic indicators of diseases, such as kallikreins (e.g. prostate specific antigen) which are promising diagnostics for prostate cancer. A number of other proteases are experimental vaccines currently in development to fight infectious diseases.

In our environment, proteases are key regulators of the life of insects and other agricultural pests, key regulators of growth and health of farm animals, and principal regulators of plants and marine food sources. Research into these relatively under-studied proteases has the potential to contribute spectacularly to our economy by improving plant and animal health through enhanced growth and treatment/prevention of parasite infections, crop protection through new herbicides and pesticides, and increased or faster production of food resources.

Some human proteases (kallikreins, metalloproteases, cathepsins) have been identified as important prognostic indicators of diseases. For example, prostate specific antigen is a protease used in the diagnosis of prostate cancer. A number of other proteases are experimental vaccines in current development to fight infectious diseases caused by parasite and viral infections. For example experimental vaccination programmes are either in progress or on the horizon in less developed countries for widespread diseases like malaria, schistosomiasis, and Dengue fever. Proteases associated with toxins such as Clostridium tetani (tetanus toxin) and Bacillus anthracis (anthrax toxin) are also being investigated as possible vaccines.

"How is it possible that I am sick even though I eat the most organic foods, am very careful with my diet and exercise regularly?"

The answer tends to be: ENZYME DEFICIENCY.

The following is a brief summary of several of the more common enzyme deficiency conditions.

PROTEASE DEFICIENCY CONDITIONS: Protease digests protein. What happens when you are protease deficient? You will have protein deficiency symptoms, depending on how deficient you are in protease. Protease deficiency creates alkaline excess in the blood.

This is not because protease itself is acidic; it is not. Acidity is created through the digestion of protein with protease. Some people may be vegetarian not by choice, but because they are protease deficient and cannot digest protein. Since acidity comes from the digestion of protein with protease, protease-deficient people may have an alkaline excess which can produce anxiety states. Often people take tranquilizers such as Xanex and then they zombie around in a fog, when simply taking protease can, through increased digestion of protein, acidify them to HOMEOSTASIS with resulting relief of their anxiety.

Homeostasis is the dynamic equilibrium within the body. Without successful physiological homeostasis (balance), in which relatively constant conditions are maintained in the internal environment, the body cannot survive. The maintenance of homeostasis involves a number of factors in addition to metabolism, such as water intake and retention, acid-base balance, excretion of waste matter and control of body temperature. In other words our body will do whatever it must to stay in homeostasis.

Protein is also required to carry protein-bound calcium in the blood. Insufficient protein-bound calcium lays the foundation for arthritis and other calcium deficient diseases. Why? When the blood cannot carry calcium because it lacks protein, it withdraws the necessary calcium from the bones to maintain homeostasis. This situation is aggravated in people who take calcium carbonate supplements, such as Tums or other antacids, because this adds to the alkaline stress on the blood. The blood cannot carry ionic calcium as efficiently because ionic calcium requires a certain level of acidity to be present.

Overly alkaline people have a multitude of calcium metabolism problems, such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, gouty arthritis, degenerative disc problems, bone spurs and related disorders such as sciatica and ligament problems.

Because 46% of digested protein is converted to glucose upon demand, inadequate protein digestion leads to hypoglycemia (hypoglycemia also has other causes such as hypothyroidism and vitamin deficiency). Symptoms include moodiness, mood swings and irritability among many others.

Water follows protein (literally). Inadequate protein in the blood also means inadequate water. Where does the water go? Into the tissues after the protein! This causes tissue swelling (edema ). Water is forced into the capillaries and into the tissues by the pressure of blood being pumped around the body. By a reverse process, which depends on the water-drawing power of the proteins in the blood, it is reabsorbed in the capillaries from the tissues. These two mechanisms need to remain in balance.

Protein maldigestion leads to a toxic colon. People in this category often have problems in the area of the descending colon (lower right quadrant of the abdomen). This includes developing appendicitis and even more serious problems such as mucous colitis and even colon cancer.

Another of the most common results of protein maldigestion is chronic ear infections and fluid in the ears, especially in children. This is a protease calcium deficiency. To drain fluids from the middle ear, you must increase protease in the blood.

Protease will pull water out of the middle ear, and also the ankles, hands and feet during PMS, and put it back into the blood.

Protease is also involved in the immune system via its action on bacterial debris, certain viruses, and its ability to break down circulating immune complexes. Protease has an ability to digest unwanted debris in the blood and should be considered your friendly blood cleanser. Protease deficient people are immune compromised, making them susceptible to bacterial, viral and yeast Infections and a general decrease in immunity. Protease deficient women are predisposed towards PMS. The only people who cannot tolerate protease are those who suffer from ulcers, gastritis or hiatus hernias. The already damaged mucosal tissue cannot handle the extra acidity from the digested protein AMYLASE DEFICIENCY CONDITIONS: Amylase digests carbohydrates or polysaccharides into smaller disaccharide units, eventually converting them into monosaccharides such as glucose. People who are fat intolerant (can't digest fats) often eat sugar and carbohydrates to make up for the lack of fat in their diet. If their diet is excessive in carbohydrates, they develop an amylase deficiency and symptoms arising therefrom.

Amylase digests not only carbohydrates but also dead white blood cells (pus). For example, when you are low in amylase you are a candidate for abscesses (areas with pus but not bacteria). if you have a toothache and are being treated with antibiotics, but it doesn't go away, chances are you may have an abscess.

Amylase is involved in anti-inflammatory reactions such as those caused by the release of histamine and similar substances.

The inflammatory response usually occurs in organs which are in contact with the outside world such as the lungs and skin.

These include skin problems such as psoriasis, eczema, hives, insect bites, allergic bee and bug stings. atopic dermatitis, and all types of herpes. The lung problems including asthma and emphysema require amylase plus other enzyme formulas depending on the particular condition.

Carbohydrates require phosphorus. If excess refined carbohydrates are consumed, a phosphorus deficiency will result.

Phosphorus deficiencies include: thick blood, tendency towards gastritis (inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract) and stiff joints, especially in the morning. Why stiff joints? Adequate phosphorus prevents the deposit of calcium oxalate and calcium carbonate in the joints. If phosphorus is deficient due to excess consumption of sugar, joint pain results from deposits of oxalates and carbonates Phosphorus deficiency is often accompanied by thick blood and high blood pressure. Please do not feel you can run out and get a phosphorus supplement to solve this problem. Quite the contrary. The only way the calcium and phosphorus can be balanced is by getting them both from the foods in which they originate in a natural, balanced proportion.

Viruses and Infections Cause Heart Attacks

A considerable amount of evidence indicates that atherosclerosis is caused by chronic inflammation, which often begins very early in life.

The dispute among experts is what causes the inflammation. One theory holds that bacteria and viruses may cause this inflammation. In addition, several studies have found a strong relationship between a common bacterium causing gum disease and atherosclerosis. In fact, the same bacterium has been cultured from the crud, or plaque, seen in arteries.

It is the battle between the bacteria/viruses and the immune system, which is in perpetual action to destroy the invaders, that begins the process of atherosclerosis.

When a bacterium or virus invades the body, the immune system sends in its special cells to kill the invaders. One team of special cells, macrophages, does this by releasing a burst of free radicals that destroy the germs long before cholesterol makes its appearance.

As with any infection, especially one that continues for decades, the body tries to seal off the infection. It does this by building a fibrous wall around the battle zone. Over time, this wall can also contain calcium deposits, and as this battle progresses, LDL cholesterol enters the injured blood vessel wall and oxidizes.

The oxidized LDL cholesterol becomes a very irritating substance, causing inflammation.

White blood cells attempt to rid the body of the cholesterol by gobbling it up like a Pac-Man, but some of these cells become so stuffed with the oxidized cholesterol that they burst, adding to the inflammation.

Immune cells then secrete a number of caustic chemicals that cause intense inflammation. Because the immune cells cannot rid the area of the microorganisms, the immune attack continues over decades.

The villagers residing in the Caucasus Mountains fascinated Dr. Nicolai Tsitsin, Russian Chief Biologist and prominent member of the Academy of Sciences. These hardy souls seemed to sail effortlessly past the age of 100. Remarkably, more than 200 individuals were over 125 — still actively working and participating in daily activities. After some physical examinations, Dr. Tsitsin discovered that many exhibited signs of “silent heart disease” and scars of “silent heart attacks,” which would have certainly been lethal to a modem man. The doctor believed that being extremely active and working hard well into old age was a contributing factor to their longevity, but he still remained puzzled. He knew there had to be some other factor entering into the equation. He was on a mission to find the common denominator. Then he stumbled on it.

These people all kept bees! Beekeeping is a profession that in itself historically confers some sort of “magical” life protection on its members, a fact confirmed by today’s scientific research. These beekeepers seemed happy and fulfilled, but were otherwise very poor. Bartering among themselves with an exchange of services and homegrown products was the accepted way of life. They had very little cash, so they regularly traded the pure clear honey from the combs of their hives for other necessities. What they kept for themselves, and ate regularly, was the thick residue that accumulated at the bottom of the hives. When Dr. Tsitsin was served some of this sweet, sticky substance in the home of one of the villagers, he had a sudden revelation. After some research and analysis, he concluded that this was the magic elixir that contributed to the remarkable longevity of these beekeepers. The tasty but unattractive glob was rich with golden granules of bee pollen.

Dr. Tsitsin attributed the incredible health and extended life spans of these people to the scientifically documented action of bee pollen and said that taken regularly and in sufficient amounts, bee pollen will prolong the life of man for many years.

What is bee pollen? It is simply flower pollen with a little bit of “magic” added by the bee. The actual gathering of pollen is a lot more complex than it would seem to most of us. When the honeybee spots a flower, she settles on the stamen (the pollen producing part) and skillfully scrapes off the powdery loose pollen with her jaws and front legs. Next, she moistens the pollen with a dab of the honey she brought from the hive. Her tibia contains thick, trimming bristles called “combs,” which she uses to brush the gold powder from her body mid-flight into tiny baskets found on the outside of her legs. When her basket is full, the microscopic golden dust has been pressed down into a single golden granule. Back at the hive, enzymes and nectar are added to the flower pollen to make bee pollen. It is often referred to as “the bread of bees.” It is this that bees use for nourishment, not honey.

Nature’s Perfect Food

One of the most fascinating things about bee pollen is that it can’t be duplicated in a laboratory. Even though thousands of analyses have been made on bee pollen using modem technologies, there still are certain components in it which science cannot identify. The bees add some mysterious ingredients that may very well attribute to its amazing healing properties.

Bee pollen is considered a “superfood,” meaning that it contains every ingredient required for sustaining life. It is 25% vegetable protein (including at least 18 amino acids, and all eight essential amino acids) and contains more than a dozen vitamins, 28 minerals, 11 enzymes and coenzymes, and 11 carbohydrates. This is why they call bee pollen “nature’s perfect food!” It contains every vitamin, mineral and amino acid that the human body needs.

The history of bee pollen is even older than mankind. Bees buzzed over our planet long before humans came into existence. The pollen and honey produced by the bees provided nourishment for animals in the very early days and later for people as well. We now know that primitive man not only fought the bees for their honey, but also feasted on the bee pollen stored in the comb. Aboriginal tribes still feast on bee grubs and regard bee pollen and honey as “well worth the price of a few stings.”

Science and Research

Most of the research on the therapeutic properties of bee pollen has taken place in Europe and Russia. Since the 1940s, many analytic studies have been conducted on bee pollen, particularly at the Laboratory of Apiary Research, near Paris, France. These studies used both mice and humans and found bee pollen to be completely nontoxic for both. In nutritional tests, “hundreds of mice have demonstrated that pollen is a complete food and that it is possible to let several successive generations be born and live without the least sign of distress while nourishing them exclusively on pollen.”

Researchers also discovered that bee pollen contained nutritive, energetic, and metabolic properties, as well as antibiotic substances that are effective against colibacillus and certain strains of salmonella. Dr. Paavo Aitrola, a well-known nutritionist in his field, stated, “Pollen is the richest and most complete food in nature. It increases the body’s resistance to stress and disease and also speeds up the healing process in most conditions of ill health...” This is especially important today when pollution, pesticides, preservatives and the over-use of antibiotics continually challenge our immune system.

Dr. Leo Conway, M.D, who treats his patients with pollen by oral ingestion, explains: “All patients who had taken the antigen (pollen) for three years remained free from all allergy symptoms, no matter where they lived and regardless of diet. Massive 900cm2 electrolysis cell is double the size of most domestic ionisers,
enabling the unit to ionise more strongly, at higher flow rates and for longer.
This leading feature alone puts the HydroTech ahead of every other machine on
the market.

You will struggle to find out the surface area of other ioniser electrodes -
they normally just state the number of electrodes, but what does it matter how
many electrodes there are if you don't know the electrode size?

The reason why other ioniser manufacturers are using ionisers with electrode
surface areas ranging between 200cm2 and 400cm2 is two-fold. First, because the
electrode materials are platinum and titanium, which are extremely expensive
metals, providing smaller electrodes enables a manufacturer to produce a machine for
less money. Second, inefficient power transformers cause larger electrodes to
heat up and deteriorate - this is not an issue with the HydroTech, which uses an
advanced SMPS electrical system that doesn't use a transformer.

The electrolysis cell is not permanently sealed, which is quite simply because
we want this expensive component to be refurnishable. Every ioniser in the world
will suffer the build up of minerals on the electrodes, decreasing its
performance. As other ionisers ship with a sealed cell, you can do nothing about
this other than dispose of your machine when you test the output pH/ORP to
discover it is no different then your municipal supply. Because we insist on a
lifetime of constant performance, we have the facilities within the UK to
refurbish electrodes, which on the 900cm2 model is usually around 8 years. If
you test any other ioniser that has been used for over 6 months you will find a

ionising potential of the HydroTech is so high, that it can undergo up to 8

The HydroTech offers 7 output levels: pH4 to pH10, and ORP +680mV to -400mV.
These levels are programmed to 7 easily identifiable buttons. The unit also has
buttons on its control panel to adjust these levels, in pH increments of 0.1,
permitting over 70 possible levels. The top setting can be adjusted to produce a
maximum ORP of -460mV, at pH 10.2. This is a pre-programmed safety limit, but to
indicate the ability of the HydroTech, if you set the machine to produce acidic
water of pH 4, and collect water from the drainage tube, the alkalinity will be around pH 11.5.

The HydroTech produces a constant pH and ORP, as verified by an on screen
display of the pH and ORP. The ONLY way to produce a constant pH and ORP is to
take measurement and adjust the power to the electrodes accordingly. We claim to
be the only ioniser with a constant output function. Please note any other
claims, be they of artificial intelligence or neuro electric computers, are
absolutely absurd and false. There is no brain inside the ioniser and nothing
brainy about a constant output function. All that is required is a device that
measures the pH & ORP, and the ability to adjust the ionising strength
accordingly.

There are two simple ways to tell if an ioniser is able to produce a stable
output: 1) adjust the input flow rate, 2) test the machine on water with a
different level of dissolved minerals. The first test is easy, and most other
ioniser literature will indicate that the machine ionises more strongly if the
flow rate is decreased (proving that it does not achieve a constant output). The second test requires you either
removing minerals, adding them, or testing the unit under a different water
supplier or indeed different country. Actually, we did all these tests - from
Japan (very soft water) to Ibiza (crazily hard water) - and the machine produced
the same results (noticeably drawing differing amounts of power, which we
measured too).

Of course, the quick way to tell is to look for a display panel that tells you
the pH and ORP, because if the machine is measuring these factors, why would it
keep that information to itself when it's so valuable to the user?

To advance our technology further for the benefit of the user we have created
the worlds only colour display, that changes colour according to the setting.
Anyone with a passing familiarity with pH testing will know that most methods
test using paper or a solution and produce a visual result. From red (acidic) to
a dark blue (alkaline), the HydroTech changes its colour, so you know at a glance what it's doing. Conveniently, red, commonly associated with
danger, is the colour for highly acidic water. This way you'll never have an
accident and drink something unintended.

In addition to colour, the machine beeps whilst producing acidic water.

The HydroTech has a very high flow rate of up to 5 litres per minute, which
simply means less waiting time for water. How does this compare with other
ionisers? Most claim flow rates of up to 3 litres per minute (we have seen 4
stated on websites, but product literature from the manufacturer always claims
3). How does this work in reality? On most municipal water supplies in the UK we
find that the output on the HydroTech is 4.5 litres per minute. On numerous
other makes of ioniser that we have tested, the flow rate is typically less than
2 litres per minute.

Even at 4.5 litres per minute the HydroTech is able to produce results that
other ionisers could only achieve if the inlet flow rate was reduced to less
than 1 litre per minute.

It is worth noting that the HydroTech displays the output flow rate, because
like everything else it is measuring this, and we believe you should know. Thus,
when the HydroTech tells you how many litres of water have been used, and that
it's time to change the filter cartridge, you can trust this basic countdown.
All other water ionisers available perform their countdown in arbitrary units
based on operation time and offer no reflection of actual water volume
processed, making their filter change notification unreliable.

All ionisers need to operate a cleaning cycle. This is due to the unavoidable
mineral build up on the electrodes. Cleaning is performed by reversing the
polarity of the power supplied to the electrodes so that minerals of the
opposite electrical charge move over the plates causing them to de-scale.

The HydroTech Ioniser initiates an automatic cleaning cycle only once every 12
hours. You'll find most other systems either perform their cleaning cycle before
you collect water every time you open the faucet, or operate some faux cleaning method
that doesn't interrupt the collection of alkaline water. Unless acidic water
move throughout all channels of an ionizer normally carrying alkaline water,
those parts will suffer scaling. Whilst the electrolysis cell is the most
valuable part of any ioniser, there are other components too which must be
maintained.

The HydroTech excels in performance by allowing a continuous ionised output for
up to 4 hours without over heating or causing any damage to the electrodes.
Other ionisers (which typically limit ionisation to 15 minutes!) cannot achieve
this because the plating on the electrodes is too thin and fragile and would
risk damage.

One considerable problem affecting this in other ionisers is the use of an
inexpensive and inefficient power transformer, which wastes up to 50% of energy
consumed as lost heat. Apart from a cost saving, transformers are an easy way to

Active oxygen species or free radicals are considered to cause extensive oxidative damage to biological macromolecules, which brings about a variety of diseases as well as aging. The ideal scavenger for active oxygen should be 'active hydrogen'.
'Active hydrogen' can be produced in reduced water near the cathode during electrolysis of water. Reduced water exhibits high pH, low dissolved oxygen (DO), extremely high dissolved molecular hydrogen (DH), and extremely negative redox potential (RP) values. Strongly electrolyzed-reduced water, as well as ascorbic acid, (+)-catechin and tannic acid, completely scavenged O.-2 produced by the hypoxanthine-xanthine oxidase (HX-XOD) system in sodium phosphate buffer (pH 7.0). The superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like activity of reduced water is stable at 4 degrees C for over a month and was not lost even after neutralization, repeated freezing and melting, deflation with sonication, vigorous mixing, boiling, repeated filtration, or closed autoclaving, but was lost by opened autoclaving or by closed autoclaving in the presence of tungsten trioxide which efficiently adsorbs active atomic hydrogen. Water bubbled with hydrogen gas exhibited low DO, extremely high DH and extremely low RP values, as does reduced water, but it has no SOD-like activity. These results suggest that the SOD-like activity of reduced water is not due to the dissolved molecular hydrogen but due to the dissolved atomic hydrogen (active hydrogen). Although SOD accumulated H2O2 when added to the HX-XOD system, reduced water decreased the amount of H2O2 produced by XOD. Reduced water, as well as catalase and ascorbic acid, could directly scavenge H2O2.
Reduced water suppresses single-strand breakage of DNA b active oxygen species produced by the Cu(II)-catalyzed oxidation of ascorbic acid in a dose-dependent manner, suggesting that reduced water can scavenge not only O2.- and H2O2, but also 1O2 and .OH.

General Description
All living things need enzymes in order to maintain life. The body depends upon enzymes to help purify the blood, break down fats, cleanse the colon, maintain proper cholesterol levels and maintain peak energy levels.

Food enzymes are not something new, but have been known to exist since the time of Hippocrates. It has long been recognized that illness is related to improper diet and inadequate nutrition and that fasting, juicing, and diets rich in herbs and raw foods help restore the body to health.

What Enzymes Do
Enzymes are complex protein molecules that are found in every cell in your body. Enzymes can become activated, and are capable of specific tasks such as, the production of energy or exchange of oxygen, and carbon dioxide, when we breathe. They are able to transfer energy to other molecules, making it easier for them to be produced, and utilized by the body, creating a domino effect, and therefore, speeds up all bodily functions. Our body contains 1,300 different enzymes that break down nutrients, rebuild cells, and cause the body to function disease-free.

The digestive system transforms food into energy for the body's use by breaking down complex proteins, fats and carbohydrates into smaller, simpler, and more usable forms. Without this transformation, digestion and assimilation of nutrients is difficult to impossible. Your health is more overtaxed, and abused by excesses of processed foods, and stimulants: baked flour, dairy, and, caffeine, soft drinks, sugar, and alcohol. Enzymes have a great effect upon the entire immune function. White blood cells contain digestive enzymes such as alkaline phosphatase, lipase, protease, amylase and peptidase, which are part of the pancreatic juices, and are only a part of many enzymes that increase immune function.

7 What is pH?
PH indicates the acidity or alkalinity of a substance. The scale runs from 0 to 14. PH value 7 is neutral, lower than 7 is acidic, and higher than 7 is alkaline. Tab water is usually in the range of 7. With electrolysis, pH goes up as ORP goes down. You can regulate the pH directly with the level setting of the machine, or indirectly by changing the water flow. If you slow down the water flow, you are intensifying the alkalinity, because the water has more time to go through the electrolysis stage.

ALKALINE WATER KNOWLEDGE AND FACTS

Every living cell within our body creates waste products. The nutrients from our food are delivered to each cell and they burn with oxygen to provide energy for us to live. Stomach Acid:
The question is: “What happens to the alkaline water once it reaches the stomach, which is highly acidic?”
In order to digest food and kill bacteria found in our foods, our stomach produces acid (PH of 4). When we intake alkaline water, the ph level the stomach rises. The stomach detects the alkaline water and commands itself to produce more acid, bringing the ph level back to 4.
At first thought this seems counter productive. But once you understand how the stomach wall makes hydrochloric acid, the process becomes clear.
The cells in the stomach must produce hydrochloric acid on an as needed basis. The ingredients to make the acid are carbon dioxide, water, sodium chloride or potassium chloride. The by-product of this acid is sodium bicarbonate or potassium bicarbonate… that is delivered to the blood stream.
These bicarbonates are the alkaline buffers that neutralize excess acids in the blood, as well as dissolving acid wastes.
As our bodies age, and accumulate more acid waste, the natural alkaline buffers that are made cannot handle such a big job. That’s where alkaline water comes into play.

Why Alkaline Water?
We all know that our body must maintain slightly alkaline to survive. Our blood ph level is 7.4 and the cellular fluid level is about 7.2. In spite of the fact that our cells produce acidic wastes constantly, our body fluids maintain an alkaline ph level to survive.
Our bodies work very hard to dispose of acidic waste. They are removed through urine and perspiration. Both of these have a low ph level. With all the effort our body gives to the removal of acid waste, we still make more waste than our body can get rid of. This is stored away in the body as solid waste. Since the blood has to carry the wastes away, it is necessary to convert the solid acid waste to liquid acid. If a substance is not dissolved into water, it does not influence
the ph level. Some types of solid acid are: cholesterol, fatty acid, kidney stones, etc…
Acid coagulates blood! This is the problem that comes from the accumulation of acid waste. Build of these acid wastes clogs your blood vessels and stops blood circulation. Our organs cannot function properly with out good blood flow to them. With out blood, our organs become mal-nourished and they begin to fail.

USING MICROWATER

What Microwater Does

The microwater unit produces two kinds of water with different redox potentials, one with a high reduction potential and the other with a high oxidation potential.

Reduced Water

When taken internally, the reduced microwater with its redox potential of -250 to -350 mV readily donates its electrons to oddball oxygen radicals and blocks the interaction of the active oxygen with normal molecules.

A biological molecule (BM) remains intact and undamaged.

Undamaged biological molecules are less susceptible to infection and disease. The microwater gives up an extra electron and reduces the active oxygen (AO), thus rendering it harmless. The AO is reduced without damaging surrounding biological molecules. Substances which have the ability to counteract active oxygen by supplying electrons are called scavengers. Reduced water, therefore, can be called scavenging water.

When taken internally, the effects of reduced water are immediate. Microwater inhibits excessive fermentation in the digestive tract by reducing indirectly metabolites such as hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, histamines, indoles, phenols and scatoles, resulting in a cleaner stool within days after reduced water is taken on a regular basis. In 1965 the Ministry of Welfare of Japan announced that reduced water obtained from electrolysis can prevent abnormal fermentation of intestinal microbes.

Oxidized Water

Oxidized water with its redox potential of +700 to +800 mV is an oxidizing agent that can withdraw electrons from bacteria and kill them. The oxidized water from the Microwater unit can be used to clean hands, kitchen utensils, fresh vegetables and fruits, and to sterilize cutting boards and minor wounds. Tests have shown that oxidized water can be used effectively to treat athlete's foot, minor burns, insect bites, scratches, and so on.

Dr. Yoshiaki Matsuo, Vice Director of the Water Institute of Japan, has developed another apparatus capable of producing hyperoxidized water with a redox potential of +1,050 mV or more, and a pH lower than 2.7. Tests have shown that this hyper oxidized water can quickly destroy MRSA (Methecillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus).

Although hyperoxidized water is a powerful sterilizing agent, it won't harm the skin. In fact, it can be used to heal. Hyperoxidized water has proven effective in Japanese hospitals in the treatment of bedsores and operative wounds with complicated infections.

But perhaps the most exciting future application of hyperoxidized water is in the field of agriculture where it has been used effectively on plants to kill fungi and other plant diseases. Hyperoxidized water is non-toxic, so agricultural workers can apply it without wearing special protective equipment because there is no danger of skin or respiratory damage. An added benefit of using hyperoxidized water to spray plants is that there is no danger to the environment caused by the accumulation of toxic chemicals in the ground.

Microwater superior to antioxidant diet

Today we read much about correct dieting principles and paying attention to what we eat in order to stay healthy. This is a sensible practice, but it is surprising that many of us don't realize that the bulk of what eat is composed of water. Vegetables and fruits are 90% water; fish and meat are about 70% water as well.

Even advocates of the importance of vitamin C in diet staples have to admit that its potency, namely, the redox potential of this important vitamin, rapidly diminishes with age and preparation for the dining table. Carbohydrates, the main consistent of vegetables and fruit, has a molecular weight of 180 whereas water has a much lower molecular weight of 18.

Microwater, with its low molecular weight and high reduction potential, makes it a superior scavenging agent of active oxygen. But electrolysis inside the Microwater unit not only charges the reduced water with electrons, it also reduces the size of reduced water molecule clusters.

NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) analysis reveals that tap water and well water consists of clusters of 10 to 13 H20 molecules. Electrolysis of water in the Microwater unit reduces these clusters to about half their normal size -- 5 to 6 water molecules per cluster.

As the graph shows, the NMR signal that measures cluster size by line width at half-amplitude shows 65 Hz for reduced water and 133 Hz for tap water, revealing that the reduced water clusters are approximately half the size of tap water clusters.

Lowering Your High Cholesterol Number in a Natural Way

It becomes more obvious than even that th e medical establishment as a whole still does not understand the basic tenants of human health. If they did, they wouldn't suggest that there are two sources of cholesterol, those of diet and genetics. Doctor's have labeled the condition a disorder and called it familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), which means you are only partly responsible for your cholesterol, that what you eat. But the other half is due entirely to your family.

“The cholesterol levels of people with this disorder may reach as high as 550 milligrams per deciliter – almost four times the level considered desirable for the average person. With cholesterol this high, people with FH are at a high risk for an early heart attack, regardless of the presence of other risk factors. If FH is suspected, children as young as two years of age may be appropriate for a cholesterol screening.” 1.

Only after two years on the wrong diet, a perfectly healthy baby can have high cholesterol. While this is an absurd notion, it is quite true. However, my protocol states that we can become healthy in 90 days or less if we subscribe to the entire program. If you have both high cholesterol and triglycerides then you have another disorder that the medical establishment has termed it familial dysbetalipoproteinemia .

The statin drug, Crestor , (manufactured by AstraZeneca from Shionogi & Co LTD, Osaka, Japan), instills this notion in us with its incessant television commercials which insists that cholesterol comes from our diet and family history, when in fact cholest erol levels are derived exclusively from diet and have nothing to do with family history. Your uncle's cholesterol level has absolutely nothing to do with your cholesterol level. We do not inherit disease from our family members. Rather, we inherit dietary habits from our family members and then contract the same diseases they have, whether it is diabetes, cancer or high cholesterol. When we continue eat the way they eat, we continue to have those diseases.

If we wish to wish to lower your cholesterol you need only to change your diet. Chlorella is one of the best foods known that actually lowers cholesterol. I have personally seen people lower their cholesterol more than 40 points in three months by taking 12 grams of Chlorella each day. However, if you don't stop eating the things that give us high cholesterol, such as meat and dairy, it will be one step forward and one step back. Chlorella will lower your cholesterol even if you don't change your diet at all. But if you can lessen your intake of animal food sources (meat, fish, eggs and dairy) and include 12 – 15 grams of Chlorella each day, your cholesterol will be substantially reduced within a 3 – 6 month time frame. How much it drops will depend on other factors as well, such as what is the rest of your diet is comprised of. How much Raw Foods are in your diet. How much do you exercise and whether you take probiotics. All these things all contributes to your cholesterol number and whether it is high or low will be because of those factors and not Uncle Fred as the advertisements insists. All disease, including high cholesterol, comes from our diet, not our genes.

Dear Mr. H:

I believe in nature and the power of what nature can do for the human body. I believe in nature because nature is God. There is zero evidence of chronic disease (not bacterial or viral) in nature. Animals in the wild do not have chronic diseases of any kind, only humans do, as well as those animals we domesticate and feed a diet of cooked and processed foods.

You believe in man and his puny, laughable attempts to control disease. Which one of your pharmaceuticals has ever cured anyone of any disease? We are all waiting for the miracle drug or treatment that will cure a person of cancer, diabetes or any other disease. Where is the drug that's free of side effects? My health protocol's side effect is Great Health. Allopathic medicine's attempts to control disease through drugs are pathetic and dangerous because they mislead people and fill them with false hopes that a drug will make them healthy when nothing could be further from the truth.

I promote health products and I do so in good faith. I'm sure you do the same. However, I am ashamed of nothing and in fact am quite proud that I have helped improve the lives of thousands of people who have followed my health protocol. The very "technology" that you scorn has brought me incredible health that I have now experienced for 10 years. Have you tried it? No, of course not. Ionization alters water in two significant
and measurable ways: pH and ORP. These
alterations to water are what make it very
different from other waters you may drink. 

pH

The pH stands for "potential hydrogen" and
is a measurement that provides an indication
of the level of hydrogen in a substance. It
is measured by the pH scale. Proper body pH
is an important factor in good health.

If any substance changes from pH 7 to pH 8,
it has become ten times more alkaline.
Conversely, if it has changes from neutral
pH 7 to pH 6, it is 10 times more acidic.

As an example, a popular Cola, at pH 2.5 is
almost 50,000 times more acidic than neutral
water, and needs 32 glasses of neutral (pH 7)
water to counteract the consumption of one
glass of Cola. (Active ingredient: Phosphoric
Acid) You can now see that a change from the
normal level 7.365 to pH 7 would mean that
your blood would suddenly be around 4 times
as acid as it should be. You would die from
poisoning by your own blood. This is why every
body system is used to support the correct
blood pH.

You can also understand from this that our
blood pH can be affected at any time of the
day by a myriad of events; food, drink, stress,
pollution, exercise, or beneficially, by
meditation, by drinking alkaline water, by deep
breathing, even by being happy.

The other way an ionizer alters the water is
in ORP. This stands for Oxidation Reduction
Potential (also referred to as "Redox" - it's
the same thing). Most leading water researchers
from Asia agree that in ionized water the
elevated pH is good, but that ORP is more
important. Alteration to the ORP is what
causes the microclustering, antioxidant and
oxygenating effects.

ORP

ORP is a "potential" energy that is stored and
ready to be put to work. It's not necessarily
working, but we know that the energy is there
and we can measure it. Another way to look at
this potential might be to look at pressure. If
you blow up a balloon, and there is air pressure
inside. As long as the balloon is closed, the
pressure remains and can be measured. When
released, this potential energy becomes kinetic
energy.

In electrical terms, potential energy can be
measured. When we use the term "potential" in
describing ORP, we are actually talking about
electrical potential as expressed in millivolts.

This potential is measured in water with an ORP
meter. What you measure is the very slight voltage
in water. We are actually measuring the presence
of oxidizing or reducing agents by their specific
electrical charge, thus Oxidation Reduction
"Potential". High pH water has more "reducing"
agents (-ORP) and low pH water has more oxidizing
agents (+ORP).

Oxidation is what turns an apple brown after it
is cut or causes metal to rust. Rust weakens metal
and signifies the deterioration of the apple. The
process of oxidation "steals" electrons from the
surface being oxidized. When we measure a something's
oxidizing potential, it is expressed in +ORP and
measures the concentration of OH+ ions or oxidizing
agents.

A "reducing" agent is simply something that inhibits
or slows the process of oxidation. The reducing agent
does this by "donating" an electron. When we measure
a something's oxidation reduction potential, it is
expressed in terms of -ORP and measures the
concentration of OH- ions or reducing agents.

In its most basic form a reducing agent is an
"antioxidant" ~ reducing oxidation. Follow this

The ORP of most tap water in the USA is between
+200 to +600mv and so is an oxidizing agent.
High pH ionized water demonstrates a -ORP and
so is a reducing agent or "antioxidant". Most
bottled waters are very acidic (low pH) and also
have higher ORPs (over +400mv).

pH and ORP alteration is a highly variable and
depends primarily on three factors:

1. The source water and its natural mineral
content - water varies widely in this respect.

2. The voltage applied to the water during
electrolysis.

3. The flow rate through the ionizer's water
cell.

These variables have a dramatic effect on pH
and ORP.

An ionizer works primarily on the mineral
content in the water. It is the dissolved mineral
content (referred to as TDS) which creates the
pathway for the "ionization" (or more correctly
electrolysis) to occur. Water without mineral
content or TDS, like reverse osmosis or distilled
water, will not conduct the current and therefore
can not be "ionized". This first variable is the
most crucial to performance. Tap waters vary
widely in the dissolved mineral content. The
higher the mineral content ("harder" water),
the higher the levels of pH and ORP alteration
an ionizer can achieve; the lower the mineral
content ("softer water"), the lower levels the
of pH and ORP alteration. The importance of this
variable can not be emphasized enough.

The heart of an ionizer is the water cell which
contains the electrodes. The electrodes are what
deliver the current and creates the "ionization".
We control the voltage conducted through the
electrodes and then to the water by selecting
the different "Alkaline" settings on an ionizer.
The higher the alkaline setting (or voltage),
the more alteration you will achieve in pH and
ORP.

Effective conductivity is the primary determinant -
not electrode size - of effective delivery of the
current or voltage into the water needed to create electrolysis.

Do not be fooled by the claim some manufacturers
make that larger electrodes will necessarily
deliver better performance. Generally the larger
electrodes have poorer conductivity - so they have
to be larger.

The flow rate through the machine determines how
long the water is actually in contact with the
electrodes receiving the voltage and the effects
of electrolysis. If your flow is fast (say you
could fill a quart or liter in 15 seconds) then
the water is not processing very long and not
receiving much alteration. Conversely, with a
slow flow rate (say the same quart or liter
took 60 seconds) the water is in the chamber
in contact with the electrodes longer and will
receive more alteration. You can always achieve
higher pH and lower ORP readings with reduced
flow rates. So controlling the flow is an
important variable in performance.

On most ionizers you can only adjust the flow
rate by using your faucet or tap.  This is not
the case with our ionizers.  You can control
the flow rate on the ionizer.

If your faucet or control dial on your ionizer
is all the way "on", the water will process
very fast through the machine. If your faucet
or control dial is just barely "on", this
reduces the flow and the water will process
for much longer.

With a fast flow rate you may only achieve
slight alteration in pH and ORP, slow it down
and you will get a higher pH and a lower ORP.
Simply put, speed it up, you get a less
alteration; slow it down and you'll get more.

To illustrate this whole principle lets look
at two very different tap waters and their
effect on performance. Remember the crucial
variable is the dissolved mineral content or
TDS (total dissolved solids) which is measured
in parts per million. This creates the pathway
for the ionization to occur.

In Valley Center, California the tap water
tests at 385 - 1001ppm of total dissolved
solids. The tap water in Seattle, Washington
tests at approximately 40 - 47ppm. You could
test water from an ionizer in Valley Center
at a given setting and flow rate and you would
get a certain result. You could test the exact
same ionizer in Seattle without altering the
setting or flow rate and you would get
dramatically different results.

Is it the ionizer? No.

It is the water as the main variable in
performance. There is much less pathway in
Seattle's water. To further illustrate
variability, you could alter the voltage or
flow rates through the ionizer in either
Valley Center or Seattle and you would get
different results again.

Comparing ORP

Lastly, comparing ORP is a tricky business.
Stating absolute values is impossible. Anyone
who really knows and understands ionizers/pH/ORP
would agree. Anyone who states absolutes in
performance proves their ignorance on the science
behind it.

Further, pH and ORP are not tied to one another.
In other words you can measure ORP in two pH 9
waters and get two very different readings.
Another factor to consider when comparing ORP
is the level of pH you will drink.

Water with a pH over about pH 11 does not taste
good to the vast majority of people. Dr. Young's
research states that the ideal range for drinking
alkaline water is between pH 9.0 and 9.5. Given
this, testing ORP at those levels is where the
real bang for the buck is; ORP at a pH level one
would actually drink.

Therefore, the only salient way to compare ORP
in ionizers is side-by-side, with the same source
water and each machine set to achieve the same
drinkable level of pH. If you drink pH 9.5 then
the ORP you get at pH 9.5 is the effective ORP
in the ionizer. Not some "absolute" or even
extraordinarily low ORP.

So understanding performance is like understanding
a dance between the three variables. Understanding
this dance is crucial to making an informed decision
when purchasing bottled water, an ionizer, and also
in getting the most out of your ionizer's performance.

Dr. Ernest Holmes:
The First Religious Scientist

"There is a power for good in the universe greater than you are and you can use it."

The man who first stated that affirmative belief, choosing those exact words, was speaking to those sharing the Twentieth Century with him.

Because of him, countless others have discovered and countless millions yet unborn will discover a rewarding awareness of their infinite potential.

A lifelong searcher and student himself, he was inspired to write a book that would become a textbook, a guidebook, for other searchers and students.

His book, The Science of Mind, correlated "the laws of science, the opinions of philosophy, and the revelations of religion applied to the needs and the aspirations of humankind."

This correlation, something completely new to the world, was also the beginning of the Institute of Religious Science and School of Philosophy, Inc., where he and others were to teach and inspire. This, in turn, would lead to the beginning of the Church of Religious Science, later to become the United Church of Religious Science.

As he always insisted, he did not legislate any of the laws that govern the universe, and he did not invent a secret new way by which humankind can partake of the unlimited good in the universe.

He sought only to explain the infallibility of the laws and express the essence of the ever-existent way.

No one before him had done that. His work was to make this modest man "a man for the ages" a pioneering guide to all humankind.

His name was Ernest Holmes.

He was born January 21, 1887, on a small farm near Lincoln, Maine.

His parents, William and Anna Heath Holmes, had nine sons. The youngest was named after a poetic young preacher of that area, Rev. Ernest Shurtleff, who later wrote the hymn, "Lead On, O King Eternal." In the order of their arrival, Ernest Holmes' older brothers were: Walter, Luther, William, Charles, Harry (who died in infancy), Fenwick, Guy and Jerome.

He acquired "the basics" of education in rural schools: grammar school in Lincoln, and Gould's Academy in Bethel, Maine. He once said: "I quit school when I was about 15 and didn't go back except to study public speaking." From 1908 to 1910, working in a store to pay his way, he attended the Leland Powers School of Expression in Boston.

The rest of his prodigious learning came from an insatiable search for what would be most meaningful for any man to know. He was an omnivorous student of and finally an authority on the universal truths and imperishable ideas manifested through the ages of literature, art, science, philosophy and religion. He spent a life-time synthesizing his discoveries. The result: The Science of Mind.

Near the close of his life, he talked to an interviewer about his own beginnings and the beginnings of Religious Science.

His Method of Learning

Asked about his quitting school at 15, he said. "I didn't want to be taken care of, so l went to work. What I have gathered has been from reading, studying and thinking, working, experiencing. It is a long, laborious, tough method, but it pays off. I don't believe there is a real other method.

"What you will really learn in life will be what you tell yourself, in a language you understand, that you accept...because it is rational enough to accept, and inspirational enough to listen to with feeling....

"From the beginning I was a non-conformist, asking so many questions I drove my relatives crazy." (But he never stopped asking, then or later.) "Fortunately, I was brought up by a mother who refused to have fear taught in her family. New England, theoretically, was pretty strict; but she was a wise woman and she determined we should never be taught there was anything to be afraid of...."

Except for that inner drive to ask questions, he said, "I wasn't strange in any particular way." He saw no visions, had no hallucinations. Even at an early age he started to study Emerson on his own initiative. About Emerson he said: "Studying Emerson was like drinking water to me. I have studied Emerson all my life."

At the Leland Powers School in Boston, some of his fellow students were Christian Scientists; an instructor was a reader in the Mother Church. He became interested in some of their thinking, especially about the healings they believed possible by those who prayed in a certain way. If such things were possible to them, he reasoned, such things must also be possible to others.

Long afterward, he elaborated on this reaction: "Anything anyone has ever done, anybody can do; there can be no secrets in nature. This I have always believed. There is no special providence, no God who says, 'l am going to tell you what I didn't tell any others.'"

He came to California in 1912 on an exploratory visit.

Two years before, his brother Fenwick had sought a warmer climate for reasons of health. He had written Ernest glowing reports about the Los Angeles suburb of Venice, where he had become a "home missionary" and built a small, thriving church.

Ernest, too, liked the climate; he liked "helping out" on Sunday in the church, and he found a job he liked, as purchasing agent for the city of Venice. What he especially liked about the job was that it allowed him plenty of time to study.

He found Los Angeles an exciting place: a growing city of progressive people, in a ferment of expanding their horizons, not only physically, but mentally and spiritually. It was a community of stimulating intellectuals. Anything anyone might want to study was taught there.

He said, many years later: "I began to read and study everything I could get hold of - no one thing. I started from the very beginning with the thought that I didn't want to take one bondage away from myself and create another. I have always been very careful about that.

"We happen to have the most liberal spiritual Movement the world has ever seen, yet it is tied together by the authority of the ages and the highlights of the spiritual evolution of the human race all of which I have become familiar with, over a long period of time, studying it and thinking about it...."

How the Speaking Started

An engineer who frequented his purchasing office became curious about the books on philosophy and metaphysics and assorted other subjects he had around him, and asked to borrow some of them. After a while, the engineer suggested inviting a few friends to his house one evening and having Ernest talk to them. "That was the first talk I ever gave," he later revealed. It led to others, in the homes of other friends.

One evening, a lady informed him that she had told the librarian at the big Metaphysical Library, then at Seventh and Grand, that he would talk there the following Thursday. "Talk on what?" he asked. Her answer was: "What you have been talking about to us here. You're better than any of the people we hear there."

He investigated. The hall rented for $1.00 a class, and the admission price per person was 25 cents. He decided to talk on Thomas Troward and the Edinburgh Lectures. Enough people showed up, and stayed, so that he went home with a $5.00 gold piece, after paying his rental. It was a heady experience

The year was 1916.

Within the next two years he was speaking to thousands of people a week in Los Angeles. He wondered how he might fare in other places, and began speaking around the country. He soon had a national reputation as a man who stimulated others to think for themselves. Wherever he went, people wanted to hear his message. They were ready for what he was already embarked upon, the great synthesis that would result in the book, The Science of Mind.

He said later "It's true that you learn from yourself in doing." He decided to halt the long speaking tours, confine his speaking to the Los Angeles area and concentrate on completion of the book. The year was 1925.

Perhaps because he lacked a formal education, he never considered himself a professional writer. Yet he wrote prolifically, and most persuasively, on every subject that deeply interested him. His first book, published in 1919, bore the title: Creative Mind. Even that early, he was beginning to find answers to his impelling search.

The Science of Mind was first published in 1926. (His revised edition, now translated into numerous other languages, including Japanese, was first issued in 1938.)

And the Consciousness Grew

In 1926 he started speaking each Sunday morning in a theatre in the Ambassador Hotel that seated 625. Within a year, latecomers couldn't get in. The Sunday morning talks were moved in November 1927, to the Ebell Theatre, which seated 1295. Within a year, that also, was too small an auditorium.

During the next few years progressive moves were made - one being to the beautiful Sala de Oro of the Biltmore Hotel. In 1934 the services were moved to the large Wiltern Theatre, at Wilshire and Western, with a seating capacity of more than 2800. There, too, before long, hundreds were turned away every Sunday.

In 1926, far-sighted friends - important people in Los Angeles - had begun to urge him to form a corporation and organize for the inevitable growth of what he was teaching. He said, "No, I don't want to do that. I don't want to start a new religion or be responsible for it."

But the friends persisted. As he expressed it later: "They argued this was something they thought valuable, and the greatest thing in the world, and finally convinced me. A Board of Governors was chosen, and we became incorporated as a non-profit religious and educational organization--the Institute of Religious Science and School of Philosophy, Inc, it was called."

The incorporation date was February, 1927. Ernest Holmes was 40 years old.

The purpose of the Institute was to furnish instruction not only in the Science of Mind, with Ernest Holmes' book as the textbook, but also to offer lectures by recognized authorities on diversified, allied subjects.

Soul-Searching, Mind-Searching

Like the university professors who soon were speaking at this new center of learning, throngs of students were attracted there by its climate of soul-searching, as well as mind-searching. Both instructors and students discovered that this unassuming, self-educated American-born philosopher, Ernest Holmes, was very practical and highly inspirational. This discovery was something they wanted to share with others.

In other ways, also, 1927 was to be a milestone year for both Religious Science and its founder. Headquarters and offices, including Practitioner offices, as well as a library and lecture halls, were established at 2511 Wilshire Boulevard.

The organizing of the Institute led to the launching only a few months later of a monthly magazine: Religious Science. The Institute was not yet equipped to enroll all the would-be students who wanted to attend. The magazine was created in an effort to sustain and build the interest that the Institute already had generated by word-of-mouth.

In Vol. I, No.1 of Religious Science, there was this announcement by Ernest Holmes:

"The purpose of this magazine will be to instruct ethically, morally, and religiously, from a scientific viewpoint of life and its meaning.

"A semi-religious periodical, ethical in its tendency, moral in tone, philosophical in its viewpoint, it will seek to promote that universal consciousness of life which binds all together in one great Whole...

"It will also be the purpose of Religious Science to present to its readers a systematic and comprehensive study of the subtle powers of mind and spirit, insofar as they are now known; and to show how such powers may be consciously used for the betterment of the individual and the race."

Like so many other ideas of Dr. Ernest Holmes, that first issue contained features that have endured. One was a meditation for each day of the month; it was a one-line meditation, at the top of a page, in the first issue. Also, there was a listing of Religious Science Practitioners. That first issue carried eight names; one was Anna Holmes, Ernest's mother.

A Statement of Purpose

In October, 1929, the magazine was to acquire a new cover design, a new makeup inside, and a new name: Science of Mind Magazine. It was a reflection of the proven appeal of this new teaching, and the book that explained it. A new "Announcement" assured all readers:

"As one of many channels for giving to the world the invaluable truths of Science of Mind, this magazine will, to the utmost ability of the organization behind it, serve men and women everywhere; seeking to help them realize their greatest good, not alone in a far-distant future, but Here and Now."

The magazine recently celebrated its 70th birthday, a milestone achieved not by a limited circulation among like-minded religionists. From the beginning, it has been sent out into the marketplace by those confident of its appeal to anyone willing to listen.

Today it has a world-wide circulation. Each issue is read by tens of thousands.

But let us return, for a moment, to 1927, lest we forget another event that made that a special year for Dr. Ernest Holmes. On October 23, 1927, in Los Angeles, he was married to widowed Hazel Durkee Foster. They were to be inseparable companions for thirty years.

On April 16, 1935, the organization founded by Ernest Holmes was reincorporated as the Institute of Religious Science and Philosophy.

On August 1, 1935, the Institute, having outgrown its quarters on Wilshire at the corner of Carondelet Street, moved to 3251 West Sixth Street. A new home office building, named The Holmes Center, was completed on this site in 1990.

Recognized the World Over

In 1945, in recognition of his book, This Thing Called Life, Ernest Holmes was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy by India's famed Andhra Research University. Among several other honorary degrees bestowed on him in recognition of his writings and his work were L.H.D. in 1945 from what is now the California College of Medicine, University of California at Irvine, and Litt. D. in 1949 from the Foundation Academic University of Spiritual Understanding, Venice, Italy.

Even earlier, in 1942, he was named Commander of the Cross by the Association of the Humanitarian Grand Prize of Belgium, and in 1944 he was named honorary member of the Eugene Field Society, a national group of authors and journalists.

In 1949, he began a popular radio program at 4 p.m. each Sunday on the Mutual network. It too, was titled: "This Thing Called Life." Each Sunday his opening words were: "There is a power for good in the universe greater than you are and you can use it." Millions heard him; millions heeded him.

The growth of the Institute and the number of its graduates; the demand for edition after edition of Dr. Emest Holmes' book, The Science of Mind; the constantly increasing readership of Science of Mind Magazine; the response to his radio program; and the interest shown in talks on Science of Mind by other speakers, wherever they appeared, all led to a change of name for the nonprofit religious and educational corporation, Institute of Religious Science. On January 4, 1954, it became, officially, the Church of Religious Science.

By then, even Dr. Ernest Holmes was convinced that the world wanted such a church. As he expressed it later: "I finally came to see that all this had to be organized so it wouldn't fall apart. And we have a wonderful, democratic, responsible organization, governed by a Board made up of laymen as well as Ministers."

In 1956 a special bequest made possible a half-hour TV program, "This Thing Called Life," once a week for 26 weeks, with Dr. Ernest Holmes visible, as well as audible, to still another fascinated audience. For the greater part of each half-hour, he was alone in front of the camera, not by his choice, but by the viewers' choice.

On May 21, 1957, he lost his chosen life-companion.

Founder's Church Dedicated

In January, 1960, he presided at the dedication of Founder's Church of Religious Science, Los Angeles. It was built at a cost of more than $l,500,000 on property at the corner of Sixth and Berendo Streets, adjacent to what is now The Holmes Center home office building.

The magnificent organ in Founder's Sanctuary is a memorial to Hazel Holmes, and on the lower level of Founder's is a beautiful chapel, serene and inspiring like the mind of Dr. Ernest Holmes: The Holmes Memorial Chapel.

Dr. Ernest Holmes made his transition to the next experience on April 7, 1960, in Los Angeles.

He left no children. But he left all humankind an enduring legacy: the way of life he called Religious Science.

On that way of life, he said this in 1958:

"We have launched a Movement which, in the next 100 years, will be the great new religious impulsion of modern times, far exceeding, in its capacity to envelop the world, anything that has happened since Mohammedanism started.

"We have to have the same faith in what we teach and practice that the scientist has, or the gardener has, and when that great simplicity shall have plumbed and penetrated this density of ours, this human stolidness and stupidity, this debauchery of the intellect and the soul, something new and wonderful will happen. It is the only thing that will keep the world from destroying itself...."

Cayenne Pepper - Cayenne and Health

Many herbalists believe that Cayenne is the most useful and valuable herb in the herb kingdom, not only for the entire digestive system, but also for the heart and circulatory system. It acts as a catalyst and increases the effectiveness of other herbs when used with them.

Cayenne is a medicinal and nutritional herb. It is a very high source of Vitamins A & C, has the complete B complexes, and is very rich in organic calcium and potassium, which is one of the reasons it is good for the heart.

Digestion

Cayenne can rebuild the tissue in the stomach and the peristaltic action in the intestines. It aids elimination and assimilation, and helps the body to create hydrochloric acid, which is so necessary for good digestion and assimilation, especially of proteins. All this becomes very significant when we realize that the digestive system plays the most important role in mental, emotional and physical health, as it is through the digestive system that the brain, glands, muscles and every other part of the body are fed.

Heart

Cayenne has been known to stop heart attacks within 30 seconds. For example, when a 90-year-old man in Oregon had a severe heart attack, his daughter was able to get Cayenne extract into his mouth. He was pronounced dead by the medics, but within a few minutes, he regained consciousness. On the way to the hospital, he remained in a semi-conscious state, but the daughter kept giving him the Cayenne extract. By the time they got to the hospital, he had fully recovered and wanted to go home and mow the lawn. The doctor asked what she had given him, as he said it was the closest thing to a miracle he had ever seen.

If a heart attack should occur, it is suggested that a teaspoon of extract be given every 15 minutes or a teaspoon of Cayenne in a glass of hot water be taken until the crisis has passed. Dr. Anderson also knew of a doctor who rushed out into the parking lot and put cayenne tincture into the mouth of a man who had died of a heart attack while he was parking his car. Within a few minutes, the man’s heart starting beating again.

According to Dr. Richard Anderson, using cayenne and hawthorn berries together has a most incredible effect upon the heart. He believes that a regimen of cayenne and hawthorn berries for several months will greatly strengthen the heart, and possibly prevent heart attacks. He states further that if an attack were to occur in someone who had followed this regimen, chances are very good that no damage would occur. He tells the following story about his mother:

“I had her taking hawthorn berries and cayenne when she had a heart attack at the age of 79. Her diet had not been the best, and she was in an extremely stressful situation. While in the hospital, they found three blocked arteries and wanted to operate immediately. They did not think that she could survive for more than a few weeks if they didn’t operate. (How many have heard that story!) The doctors thought it would be very risky to operate, but they had her there, and there was a lot of money to be made. So they decided to take some tests in the hopes that they could find an excuse to operate. In spite of the fact that she had been taking lots of aspirin for her arthritis, smoked like she was the reincarnation of a boiler factory, and had just had a heart attack, they found that her heart was incredibly strong. In fact, they felt that her heart was stronger than most people in their 30’s! The good news was that not only did she survive the operation, but also she stopped smoking! Well worth the operation, don’t you think? In my opinion, that was the best thing the doctors ever did for her. Well, that is what hawthorn and cayenne can do for the heart, and every good herbalist knows it; every good doctor should also know it, but very few do.”

Emergencies

It is a good idea to always have some Cayenne extract on hand for emergencies. Dr. Anderson carries capsules of cayenne with him in the car and whenever he goes hiking, backpacking or mountain climbing. He says, “You never know when you may find someone having a heart attack or some other emergency.”

The following stories demonstrate only a few of the remarkable emergency uses of cayenne.

If a hemorrhage occurs in the lungs, stomach, uterus or nose, it is suggested that a teaspoon of extract (or a teaspoon of cayenne powder in a cup of hot water) be given every 15 minutes until the crisis has passed. The bleeding should stop in 10-30 seconds. The reason for this is that rather than the blood pressure being centralized, it is equalized by the Cayenne, and the clotting action of the blood becomes more rapid. For external bleeding, take cayenne internally and pour cayenne directly on the wound.

Dr. Anderson tells of one time when he was on the beach and a man began passing a kidney stone. The man took some cayenne, which relieved his pain almost immediately.

A person known to Dr. Anderson had a severe toothache in the middle of the night on a weekend. He tried many things to relieve the pain. Cayenne was the only thing that helped.

One of the youngest persons to take cayenne was a six-week old baby who was born with chronic asthma. Dr. John Christopher administered the cayenne using an eyedropper, and it then became possible for the baby to breathe normally.

Dr. Christopher has used cayenne to eliminate allergies, varicose veins, cramps, constipation, and to increase energy.

Dr. Anderson recommends cayenne to help cleanse the body, increase body heat, improve circulation, and strengthen the eyes. But above all, Dr. Anderson feels that cayenne is exceptionally beneficial for the heart.

What is Water?

A water molecule, expressed in the chemical symbol H20, consists of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.

Standing alone, the hydrogen atom contains one positive proton at its core, with one negative electron revolving around it in a three dimensional shell. Oxygen, on the other hand, contains eight protons in its nucleus with eight electrons revolving around it.

The single hydrogen electron and the eight electrons of oxygen are the key to the chemistry of life, because this is where hydrogen and oxygen atoms combine to form a water molecule, or split to form ions.

Hydrogen tends to ionize by losing its single electron and form single H+ ions, which are simply isolated protons since the hydrogen atom contains no neutrons. A Hydrogen bond occurs when the electron of a single hydrogen atom is shared with another electronegative atom such as oxygen that lacks an electron.

What is Micro Cluster Water?

Water molecules come in clusters rather than single molecules. Tap water has very large clusters (10 to 13 molecules per cluster). What is electrolysis?

Cations, positive ions, gather at the negative electrodes creating cathodic or reduced water. Anions, negatively charged ions, gather at the positive electrode to make anodic or oxidized water.

By this electrolysis process the reduced water not only gains an excess amount of electrons (e-), but the H2O clusters are reduced in size from about 10 to 13 molecules per cluster to 5 to 6 molecules per cluster.

What are anti-oxidants and why do we need them?

Oxidation, which is a regular function of metabolism and cell funtion, strips an electron from certain molecules. These molecules ( called free radicals) then must steal an electron from a neaby molecule to repair themselves, which means that the neaby molecule must steal an electron from another molecule and on and on. This vicious oxidation cycle ends when an electron is taken from a molecule which has an excess electron to donate. These 'donor' molecules are called anti-oxidants and are provided by nature in Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Beta Carotene, Selenium etc.

In biological systems, removal or addition of an electron constitutes the most frequent mechanism of oxidation-reduction reactions. These oxidation-reduction reactions are frequently called redox reactions.

Researchers almost univerally blame oxidation for premature aging and degenerative diseases.

Pollution, chemicals, food additives, pesticides, anti-biotics etc are thought to dramtically accelerate the oxidation process, increasing the need for anti-oxidants. At the same time we are eating more refined foods which have had the vitamins and anti-oxidants removed or destroyed by processing. Most people take supplements to increase the amount of anti-oxidants that their body has available and studies have shown that people who regularly take large doses of Vitamins E and C, Beta Carotene, Grape Seed Extract. If Active Oxygen or Free Radicals are so damaging to our cells why does our body produce excess amounts of them?

All these waste products of digestion are pathogenic; this is, they can cause disease in the body. Hydrogen sulfide and ammonia are tissue toxins that can damage the liver. Histamines contribute to allergic disorders such as atopic dermatitis, urticaria (hives) and asthma. Indoles and phenols are considered carcinogenic.

Excessively offensive stools caused by the presence of toxins are indicators of certain diseases, and the body responds to the presence of these toxins by producing neutrophil leukocytes, which release active oxygen in an attempt to neutralize the damage to organs that can be caused by such waste products. But when an excess amount of such active oxygen is produced, it can damage healthy cells as well as neutralize toxins. This leads us to the conclusion that we can minimize the harmful effects of these active oxygen radicals by reducing them with an ample supply of electrons.

For our body to function and to maintain body temperature, we burn nutrients within our cells. The main ingredients of all foods, expensive or inexpensive, gourmet or junk, vegetable or meat, alkaline or acid, are either carbohydrates, proteins or fats. And they are nothing but the combinations of four elements: carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen and oxygen.

After these nutrients are burnt (oxidized) in the cells, they all turn into organic acids: carbonic acids, uric acids, lactic acids, fatty acids, ammonia, etc. Fats are acidic even before oxidation. The Chinese word for oxygen is written with two characters, "sahn-so". They literally mean "acid root".

What is meant by alkaline and acid? What does pH stand for?

PH stands for 'Power of Hydrogen'. Water molecules are made up of two Hydrogen atoms and one Oxygen atom (H2O). Hydrogen atoms are the smallest atoms an the universe, having only a single proton and a single electron. Hydrogen is estimated to form 90% or the matter in the universe.

Living things are extremely sensitive to pH and function best (with certain exceptions, such as different portions of the digestive tract) when solutions are nearly neutral. Most interior living matter (excluding the cell nucleus) has a pH of about 6.8.

Blood plasma and other fluids that surround the cells in the body have a pH of 7.2 to 7.45. A blood pH of 6.9 could induce coma and possibly death to the body. So the body possesses numerous special mechanisms to aid in stabilizing these fluids so that cells will not be subject to appreciable fluctuations in pH. Substances which serve as mechanisms to stabilize pH are called buffers. Buffers have the capacity to bond ions and remove them from solution whenever their concentration begins to rise. Conversely, buffers can release ions whenever their concentration begins to fall, thus helping to minimize the fluctuations in pH. This is an important function because many biochemical reactions normally occurring in living organisms either release or use up ions.

The degree of acidity or alkalinity of a solution is measured in terms of a value known as pH, which is the negative logarithm of the concentration of hydrogen ions (Hydrogen atoms that have been stripped of their electron). The higher the concentration of Hydrogen ions the more acidic the water is.

The opposite of this is molecules that contain a large concentration of hydroxide ions (molecules that have one or more extra electrons). This water is called alkaline. In Bio-Chemistry when a molecule has excess electrons it is called 'reduced' and when it has too few electrons it is called 'oxidized'. Alkaline Water readily donates its abundant electrons to render excessive free radicals harmless. so that they do not "steal" electrons from healthy living cells. Acid water is oxidized and steals electrons from nearby molecules. This gives it anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.

The body needs both acidic and alkaline reactions, the acidic to rid itself of bacteria, fungus, viruses, pollutants, toxins etc. and the alkaline to cool, cleanse and restore the cells. In Eastern thought the concepts of acid and alkaline have been closely linked to yin (acid) and yang (alkaline). The balance of these forces is considered to lead to good health. But the truth is most of the food in our modern diet is too acidic and produces an imbalance in the form of acidity in the body. The Macrobiotic diet urges that one eat alkaline (yang) food and avoid acidic (yin) food. Another approach is to take anti-oxidant supplements (such as Vitamin C and Vitamin E) to reduce the free radicals and stop the excesive oxidation. Drinking Alkaline water is probably the best approach to solving this imbalance since it has an abundance of electrons to donate and it is easily absorbed into all cells and intra-cellular structures of the body.

What is Redox and Redox potential.

Redox is a combination of the words reduction (having excess electrons) and oxidation (missing electrons). It is expressed in a scale that has positive and nevgative notations. The negative values represent substances that have an excess of electrons and the positive the substances that have a lack of electrons. The best anti-oxidants are tose that have the largest negative Reedox value.

Traditionally, we have judged the properties of water from the standpoint of pH - whether water is acid or alkaline. Yoshiaki Matsuo, Ph.D., the inventor of the water ionizer says;

"In my own opinion, redox potential is a more important factor to good health than pH. The importance of pH is overemphasized. For example, the average pH of blood is 7.4 and acidosis or alkalosis are defined according to deviation within the range of 7.4 to 0.05. Is water really important for health? I thought food was the main determinant of health.

70% of a human body's weight is water, and water content for an infant is more than 80%. A human body gets old from a lack of water (literally dries up). More than half of the water content of a human body remains in the cells, but does not remain there unmoved. That's why the water quality is a decisive factor for a good health.

Every day a grown-up needs 2.5 liters of water, of which drinking water is about one liter, water from food is an additional liter, and metabolism in the body generates 0.5 liter of water. A grown-up excretes about 2.5 liters of water every day, among which urea is 1.5 liters, defecation contains 0.1 liter of water, sweat is 0.5 liter, water in breathing out is 0.4 liter. Does Alkaline Water slow down aging and if so how?

Bad diet, either a present one or one in the past, can cause acid wastes to be stored in the body. A meat and potato diet, for example, can cause the body to become more acidic. When acid wastes enter our bloodstream, the blood, in order to maintain that narrow pH range, will store them somewhere else. THE pH REGULATORY SYSTEM OF THE BODY

The pH balance of the human bloodstream is recognized by all medical physiology texts as one of the most important biochemical balances in all of human body chemistry.

pH is the acronym for "Potential Hydrogen". In definition, it is the degree of concentration of hydrogen ions in a substance or solution. It is measured on a logarithmic scale from 0 to 14. Higher numbers means a substance is more alkaline in nature and there is a greater potential for absorbing more hydrogen ions. Lower numbers indicate more acidity with less potential for absorbing hydrogen ions.

Our body pH is very important because pH controls the speed of our body's biochemical reactions. It does this by controlling the speed of enzyme activity as well as the speed that electricity moves through our body.

The higher (more alkaline) the pH of a substance or solution, the more electrical resistance that substance or solution holds. Therefore, electricity travels slower with higher pH.

All biochemical reactions and electrical (life) energy

are under pH control.

If we say something has an acid pH, we are saying it is hot and fast. As an example, look at the battery of your car. It's an acid battery. On cold days you want it to be hot and ready, and you want your car to start fast.

Alkaline pH on the other hand, biochemically speaking, is slow and cool. Compare it to an alkaline battery in a flashlight. You want that battery to be cool, and to burn out slowly.

Here is an example of how pH can control. Look around you at society in general. Do you see people getting exhausted, burned out, and quick to anger? Do you see a rise in violence? It is important to understand that because of a gradually failing thirst sensation, our body becomes chronically and increasingly dehydrated, from an early adult age. With increase in age, the water content of the cells of the body decreases, to the point that the ratio of the volume of body water that is inside the cells to that which is outside the cells changes from a 1.1 to almost 0.8. Introduction

Ionized Alkaline Water produced by a Water Ionizer has many of the same "living qualities" as found in high altitude, free-flowing, spring-fresh mountain water.

Chapter 1

Water: Importance and Function in the Human Body

Water is necessary for every body function and proper daily intake is essential for optimal health. The average adult body contains over 40 quarts of water, about 70% of body mass. Blood is: 83% water, muscles, brain and heart 75%, lungs 86%, kidney 83%, and
eyes 95%.

Water is necessary for digestion, absorption of nutrients, circulation, lubrication, and elimination. It is a flushing agent and cleanser for all body liquids. Water facilitates the transport of toxins away from cells and tissues, and ultimate elimination through the kidneys. As a major component of blood plasma, water is necessary in bringing life-giving nutrients to every cell of the body.

If the body is dehydrated, water will be allocated from less vital functions to critical areas such as the cardiovascular, nervous, and muscular systems. Over time insufficient water intake can lead to chronic dehydration, imbalance your body's pH, and cause serious health problems.

How Much Water Should You Drink?

Drinking sufficient water each day is not only essential for life, but also a basic requirement for maintaining optimal health. When evaluating the amount of water you consume each day, you cannot include such liquid as coffee, soft drinks, or alcohol. These liquids will ultimately dehydrate the body as they cause a net loss of body water reserves. The amount each person should drink depends on body size, climate, and your exercise regimen.

A good rule of thumb is to drink 1/2 ounce daily for every pound of weigh. For example, a 150 lb. person would drink about 75 ounces of water daily, or approximately 2.5 quarts. So it is recommended that you drink a minimum of 8-10 glasses of water each day. It can be particularly healthy to start your day with a glass of water to flush your digestive tract and re-hydrate our body after a night's rest.

Chapter 2

Maintaining Proper Body Acid / Alkaline Balance

Whether a liquid is alkaline or acidic is determined by its pH, a chemistry term that means "potential hydrogen". When we calculate the pH of a liquid we are measuring the number of Hydroxyl (OH-) ions which are negative and therefore alkaline-forming, as opposed to the amount of hydrogen (H+) ions that are positive and therefore acid-forming.

Neutrality is measured as 7 on the acid/alkaline scale. The pH scale ranges from 0 (the highest acidity) to 14 (the highest alkalinity). Chemists measure the degree of acidity of a liquid by the level of concentration of water-bound hydrogen ions, and the level of alkalinity by the number of Hydroxyl ions present.

The following table shows the pH of several body fluids:

The human body has several complex systems for maintaining its critical acid/alkaline balance. Lungs breathe out increased amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) when there are excessive amounts present. When CO2 is dissolved in liquid it forms carbonic acid. The kidney eliminates acid through urine. The blood is also equipped with complex systems to maintain proper pH. It is essential that blood pH be maintained at a level of about 7.4 which is in the alkaline range.

When the body is unable to maintain proper pH balance, there is danger that it will become overly acidic. Acids will then accumulate and are deposited in the body causing illness in the body.

Although it is possible for the body to become overly alkaline, it is rare and usually caused by metabolic disorders. The most common condition is a tendency toward acidosis, caused by improper diet, environmental toxins, and stress. In the next chapter we will examine the causes and symptoms of acidosis and the dangers it presents to maintaining optimal health.

Chapter 3

The Dangers of Acidosis: Causes, Symptoms, and Solutions

Acidosis can be defined as the condition in which the acid/alkaline balance of the body has shifted unfavorably, and the body fluids have become overly acidic. Acidosis has been recognized as a contributing factor in many health conditions including gout, heartburn, gastritis, sore muscles, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, skin diseases, obesity, frequent colds and flus, and more serious conditions such as heart disease and cancer.

An acidic body state creates an environment that can lead to disease, and speed up the aging process. Disease thrives in an acidic condition; the more acidic a person is, the more susceptible he is to disease.

Symptoms of Acidosis

Some of the symptoms of acidosis can include lack of energy, constipation, digestive problems such as indigestion and gas, gout, joint pain, chronic skin rashes, allergies, high blood pressure, reduced immune functions, and weight gain.

Causes of Acidosis

The causes of acidosis can include: inadequate or improper nutrition, insufficient intake of water, stress and too little or excessive exercise.

1) Nutrition and Acidosis

The over consumption of acid-forming foods can be a major contributor to chronic acidosis. Certain foods such as meats, dairy products, and fried foods when consumed excessively can lead to an acid condition. Liquids such as coffee and alcohol can also create acidity in the body.

2) Water and Acidosis

Insufficient intake of water can be another cause of acidosis, as water is necessary to wash acid wastes out of the body tissues. As we will see in future chapters, the proper type and amount of water consumed can be critical in maintaining proper pH balance in the body.

3) Stress

Both physical and mental stress can lead to chronic acidosis. When the body is under stress, body systems produce acids as a natural reaction. The adrenal gland in particular is involved in secreting the stress hormones, cortisol and adrenaline. These hormonal secretions lead to an accelerated metabolic stage that increases acid levels in the body.

4) Exercise Level and pH Balance

Lack of exercise can contribute to the accumulation of acids in the body. When we exercise, the body is stimulated to burn fatty acids as well as accumulated acids. Increased circulation improves the elimination of acid wastes from body tissues.

On the other hand, excessive or overly intense exercise can result in the buildup of lactic acid in the muscles. Your approach to exercise should consist of moderate physical activity with a period of rest to allow the lactic acid levels to return to normal.

5) Reversing Chronic Metabolic Acidosis

In designing a program to reduce acidity in the body and promote alkalinity, you mush remove the direct causes of acidosis. Consume alkaline foods such as fresh vegetables, green salads, and fruits such as bananas, and melons; and reduce the intake of acid foods. Reduce stress and exercise moderately.

Finally, the amount and type of water You drink can greatly assist you in reversing acidosis. We will discuss this important topic in the following chapters.

Chapter 4

Ionized Alkaline Water:
Characteristics and Benefits of Water Produced by a Water Ionizer

Ionized Alkaline Water is produced by a unique health appliance called a Water Ionizer. The Water Ionizer first passes the water from your kitchen faucet through an advanced filter to remove pesticides, chlorine, and contaminants. The water is then put through the ionization chamber and electrically splits the filtered water into alkaline water and acid water. This is done by running the pre-filtered water over positive and negative electrodes.

A Water Ionizer has two water chambers with positive and negative electrodes. The negative electrode attracts positive minerals, which are the alkaline minerals, to its chamber, while the positive electrode attracts negatively charged minerals, which are acid minerals, to its chamber. The two chambers are separated by a special membrane with very tiny holes, so small that water molecules cannot go through, but large enough to permit the ionized minerals to get through. This ionization process takes place while the water is running through the water ionizer. A stream of alkaline water comes out of the stainless steel nozzle at the top of the unit, and the acid water comes out of the back to drain off into the sink. Approximately 70% of the water produced is alkaline and 30% is acid water.

The common alkaline minerals concentrated by the water ionizer to produce alkaline water are calcium, magnesium, manganese and potassium. The acid minerals that are discarded include chlorine, fluoride, sulfur, phosphorus, bromine, silicon and copper.

Water Ionizers were developed in the late 1950's by several Japanese Agricultural Universities. After the health benefits were well-researched and demonstrated, the water ionizer was approved as a Health Improvement Medical Device by the Health and Rehabilitation Ministry of the Japanese government.

The better quality Water Ionizers have several levels of alkalinity. You can begin by drinking mildly alkaline water, slowly increasing the alkalinity over time. A water ionizer will typically produce water with a pH between 7 and 10. Alkaline water in the 8.5 to 9.5 range is sufficiently alkaline to produce the health benefits desired.

1) Alkalinity

3) Microclustered

Water from a Water Ionizer is "microclustered", meaning it is grouped together in smaller clusters of 5-6 water molecules like clusters found in natural flowing spring water, instead of the 10-13 found in bottled or tap water. This makes it "microclustered" so it will be more quickly and easily absorbed and will hydrate cells and tissues more effectively.

The hexagonal molecular structure resulting from electrolysis is what makes ionized water "wetter" than tap or bottles water. It is up to 6 times more hydrating than typical tap water. Therefore it permeates cellular membranes quickly to provide a natural energy lift.

4) Antioxidant

Ionized Water has two antioxidant qualities - its negative charge and the presence of Hydroxyl ions. All liquids have an Oxidative Reduction Potential (ORP). Normal tap water has an ORP of +300 to +400 mv. It does not have any potential for reducing oxidation because its ORP is positive.

Only a negative ORP can reduce or negate oxidation. Water produced by a quality Water Ionizer typically has an ORP of about -250 to -400 mv, meaning it can act as an antioxidant that can reduce oxidation, neutralize harmful free radicals, and retard the aging process.

Alkaline water acts an an antioxidant, scavenging for and neutralizing free-radicals. Because alkaline water has the ability to give up electrons, it can effectively neutralize and block free radical damage to the body. Ionized Alkaline Water: A Potent Detoxifier

Water is essential for detoxification of the accumulated acid wastes in the body. It is the means by which toxins are flushed out of the body tissues for excretion through the kidneys. Modern living exposes us to a broad spectrum of toxins, including those we consume in the food we eat, toxins produced naturally in the body as a by product of normal metabolism, heavy metal exposure, and air pollution.

Common symptoms of excessive toxins include bad breath, coated tongue, frequent fatigue, headaches, digestive problems, allergies, and skin disorders such as acne or rashes.

Toxins We Consume

A holistic approach to common ear, nose, and throat problems

Sinusitis, allergy, asthma, acid reflux and chronic nasal congestion are some of the most common problems seen by an ear, nose, and throat specialists. The standard medical treatment for these ailments has been based on the use of nasal steroid sprays, oral steroids, and antihistamines. In severe cases, surgery is performed.

These medications have one thing in common. They each treat the symptom, but not the problem. The root cause of these problems is inflammation. In most cases, the body is unable to digest nutrients from food and/or there is an allergy to a food or an environmental trigger such as pollen or animal dander. Once the inflammatory process begins, it leads to swelling, fluid retention, constriction of blood vessels and a slowing or increasing of the movement of food through the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It is important to keep in mind that the GI tract begins at the nose and ends at the anus. Therefore, it becomes clear that there can be complaints throughout the system if inflammation is present. For example, swelling of the tissue in the nose causes nasal congestion and can lead to sinusitis; swelling in the stomach can lead to acid reflux and heartburn; swelling in the intestine can cause bloating, gas, constipation and/or diarrhea; and swelling in the lung can cause asthma. In children, colic, failure to gain weight, frequent vomiting especially during and after meals, eczema, hyperactivity, and frequent infections are seen.

In order to control inflammation, it is important to properly digest what is eaten. Properly digested food improves absorption of nutrients and eliminates the formation of toxins that can trigger an inflammation. Usually a person can identify foods that will cause problems like nasal stuffiness, headache, bloating, heartburn or gas. However, sometimes there are more severe symptoms such as wheezing, hives, itching, and eczema that are also related to maldigestion.

Simply, if a child has an allergy to the food or does not have the appropriate digestive enzymes to break it down so that it can be absorbed into the body, the food will remain in the GI tract and become rancid and toxic, stimulating a diffuse inflammatory response. The immune system will be turned on to attack the "foreign substance." This leads to "allergy" in adults and cold symptoms in children, such as sneezing, snoring, nasal congestion, and runny nose. If the skin is involved, hives, itching, redness, and eczema result. If the intestine is involved, diarrhea or constipation result. If the lung is involved, bronchitis and asthma are the presenting symptoms.

The ability to digest proteins, starches, sugars and fats depends on several factors. It can depend on blood type, body type, age, prior intestinal surgery, a history of not being breastfed as a child, medications that are being taken, and increased stress. For example, if there is not enough protease enzyme, eating proteins such as meats and eggs will lead to symptoms such as fatigue, nasal congestion, foul smelling stool, heartburn and/or bloating.

Detoxifying the system is important to cleanse the system of waste and toxins. Colonic therapy, chelation therapy, the use of various herbal remedies, and enzyme therapy are some examples of valuable methods of achieving this. Drinking plenty of water and avoiding preservatives, processed foods, and sugar are also important to promote digestive health. The use of enzymes, minerals, and vitamins are integral to maintaining a balanced healthy system.

In children, avoidance of treating frequent infections with chronic antibiotic use is the goal of both parents and physicians. The key to attaining that goal is prevention. Being proactive helps control and., in most cases, eliminates problems before disease can arise. Misunderstandings and Answers

Recently there has been a lot of talk about the unique and health-giving benefits of a type of treated water being descriped as kangen and the new MLM company Enagic ®.
Enagic Corportion of Japan is the owner of US registered trademarks KANGEN WATER and ENAGIC. This interest in kangen, in the USA, coincided with a push into the alkaline water market by the MLM (Multi Level Marketing) company Enagic ®. Enagic corporation has been doing a fantastic job of introducing the concept of alkaline and acid water to many people who otherwise would not know about the wonderful, healthful benefits of such treated water.
This article is written with the intention to address some of what is been said on other web sites and in public meetings regarding the treated water known as KANGEN, so that customers wanting the best value for their money, are able to make an informed opinion about Kangen and Enagic ® water ionizers models, without the misunderstanding.

Misunderstanding Issue One: Kangen produced by Enagic ® Corporation’s water ionizers is different from alkaline, ionized water produced from other manufacturers' water ionizers.
Answer: Enagic ® water ionizers produce the same type of alkaline and acidic water in that their machines contain a filter and ionizing chamber just like all other alkaline water ionizers.
The ionizing chamber in an Enagic ® brand basically uses the same technology as do all other water ionizers to split the water into acid and alkaline streams. Kangen is taken as simply another name for ionized, alkaline water. Nowhere will you be able to find a definition of kangen that is different than alkaline water made from a typical ionizer because there is not any.
In trying to make a difference where there is none, one Enagic® representative's web site trys to describe Kangen by saying, "technically, in order to be classified as Kangen Water ®, it needs to show a negative ORP (-ORP) in the range of -200mV to -450mV, while typical Ionized Alkaline Water shows anywhere between +100mV and -100mV, depending on the quality of the machine…". Even most water ionizers from China can get at least a -250mV ORP reading (and it should be noted that IonLife’s and Jupiter ionizers can get over -800mV ORP.)
That been said, Enagic ® through its MLM is doing a fantastic job of introducing the concept of alkaline and acid water to people who otherwise would not know about it.

Misunderstanding Issue Two: Kangen is better than alkaline, ionized water.
Answer: No, they are basically the same thing as discussed above. There are two ways the quality of kangen or alkaline water are measured - by how acid or alkaline the water becomes (pH) and by how much ionization occurs (ORP).
For example, independent tests carried out by ex Enagic ® representatives (concerned about the high prices been charged), showed that the Jupiter Science Melody produced as high an ORP (negative ionization) as did the tested Enagic® model. Also when salt was added to the calcium port in the Melody, it produced a stronger acidic water than that achieved by the tested Enagic ® machine.
Unfortunately when there are very high prices there can also be a need to justify the difference - such as in the following comment from an independent representative's website:
"This water technology is practically non-existent outside Japan. ... Even worse, there are some people who are trying to sell (the) cheaper Ionized Alkaline Water machines as if they were at the same or a similar level as with the Kangen Water ® machines, only cheaper."

Misunderstanding Issue Three: Some Enagic ® representatives' websites claim that their Enagic ® units and kangen are recognized and approved by the Japanese Health Department, unlike all other ionizers.
Answer: In the 1980s the Japanese Health Department recognized that ionized alkaline water from water ionizers had proven health benefits and described water ionizers as health devices.
Major Korean corporations who also manufacture in Japan such as Hyundai, LG and Samsung use standard Jupiter Science parts to manufacture their own ionizers and all have approval from the Japan Ministry of Health.
We challenge anyone to be able to produce a document or page from any government web site that say specifically that their water ionizers were the only ones approved as Health Devices by the Japanese Government.
Below are examples of comments from an Enagic ® web site and ones that are often voiced.
"The Enagic ® is approved by The Japan Ministry of Health, as a top quality medical device" or "Enagic ® units and kangen water ® are recognized and approved by the Japanese Health Department".

Misunderstanding Issue Four: The well known authorities on ionized water endorse or recommend Enagic ® ionizers rather than other ionizers.
Answer: The best known authorities in the USA such as Dr. Robert Young (author of The pH Miracle), Dr. Theodore Baroody (author of Alkalize or Die), and Sang Whang (author of Reverse Aging) all recommend and sell Jupiter Science water ionizers because they want to give their customers high quality kangen or alkaline water ionizers at an honest price. Other well know alkaline authorities that endorse and use Jupiter Science water ionizers include Daniel Reed (author of The Tao of Detox), Harald Tietze (author of Youthing) and Ian Hamilton (author of The Untold Truth...).

Misunderstanding Five: Kangen or Enagic ® ionizers cost more than Jupiter Science water ionizers because they are better.
Answer: No, expensive is not better.
The Jupiter Melody is priced just over $1000 and offers some important user friendly features that may be missing with the Enagic ® products (see below). Certain alkaline water ionizers are better and stronger than others and the Enagic ® range of ionizers are decent, good models. Our models offer features not necessarily found in competing water ionizers but when you have a MLM company that pays eight levels down you have to create an artificially high price because Enagic ® and up to eight representatives need to make money from every single sale. It is estimated that Enagic ® pays out well over $2000 on each ionizer sale to its downline (and this does not include the profit made by the company itself). The highest retail price you pay for a Jupiter water ionizer is less than $1500. You do the math.

MLM "reps" typically do not have a thorough technical understanding of the properties of kangen, ionization and how the two together produce health benefits. In Multi Level Marketing (MLM), there are exceptions; reps who have really rolled up their sleeves and educated themselves, but the fact remains there can be a lot of "bogus" information fed to people who have been to MLM presentations. Going to a few MLM presentations does not make one an expert in something, especially something as complex and technical as ionization. MLM "reps" can be innocently fed misinformation and led to believe in half truths. Then these misinformed "reps", who are motivated by the MLM dream, go forth and perpetrate these inaccuracies and mislead naïve customers into falsely thinking they are getting something of great value. The price of Enagic ® models has more to do with compensating the Enagic ® MLM reps than the actual cost or the comparative technology inherent in their ionizers. To verify that, simply ask Enagic ® about their compensation plan and see how much money is paid to the various levels of the network organization when one machine is sold.

Misunderstanding Six: Enagic ® Corporation of Japan has been marketing "Kangen Water ®" ionizers for 30 years.
Answer: Our research has led us to believe that what became the Enagic ® brand was initially manufactured by Toyo Metal a/k/a Toyo Aitex who recently sold marketing rights to Enagic ® (also called the Thohan Kiden organization). Toyo Metal water ionizer were called the Apex, Pure Porte 11 or Protec units and these early models were manufactured by and sold for less than $1000 in the USA. For a while the Pure Porte brand was also sold by IonLife before IonLife decided to only sell Jupiter ionizers.
A company called HydroAnalytics previously imported, distributed and did hands-on repairs on this unit from Japan for the US, Western Hemisphere and European market before it was withdrawn from the US market, presumably due to lack of market penetration. In Japan the Thohan Kiden organization manufactures units, that are not sold through the Enagic ® Corporation of Japan for similar prices to other alkaline water ionizer in the US market.

Here are some bullet points to consider in comparing Enagic ® ionizers to Jupiter Science ionizers:

Filtration: Jupiter's Biostone filtration system is available in 1 micron and .01 micron levels of filtration. Both options have coral calcium and tourmaline to improve performance (Enagic ® does not have a .01 Biostone or the Calcium or Tourmaline). The replacement filter for the Jupiter Biostone filter is also set at an honest retail price.
Installation: the Jupiter Melody can be installed three ways including undersink and directly to the cold water line.
Functionality: the Jupiter Melody has increased functionality in terms of a flow control valve that operates independently of the tap (Enagic ® flow is controlled by tap). Jupiter's two latest models (better quality than the Melody) have a fully automatic valve system. The more advanced Jupiter models also have an LCD control panel screen which has various readouts and alarms.
Cleaning: the Jupiter Melody, and the two latest models have a patented reversible chamber so you can ALWAYS get alkaline or kangen water even while the machine is cleaning (with Enagic ® models you have to wait while unit is cleaning).
Performance: the Jupiter Melody in side by side comparisons has been proven to be at least equal to the Enagic ® Levelluk DX II. Jupiter's latest two models the Aquarius and Orion, being stronger than the Melody, will most likely outperform Enagic ® (not tested yet against Enagic ®). "Ever since the Big Bang, everything in the universe vibrates. All matters, atoms, molecules and all kinds of substances vibrate when energy is applied. We can not see energy but we can see the effects of energy by observing different kinds of vibrations. Through these vibrations, energy is transferred from one substance to another.

At absolute zero temperature (-273.15 0C or -459.670F), all matters cease to vibrate. As temperature increases, they vibrate. The velocity and frequency of vibration depend on the substance: molecular weight, molecular structure, the size of mechanical structure, etc. When a tuning fork is banged, it vibrates with a particular pitch which is its own resonant frequency. The banging energy is transferred into a sustaining tone, although the banging energy does not vibrate at that frequency. The banging energy is an impulse energy that contains a wide range of frequencies, each with a very small amount of energy. The tuning fork converts the entire banging energy into a single tone of vibration.

When we pass 60Hz (cycles per second) electrical current through a substance, tungsten, it converts the energy into very high frequency vibration, namely the visible light frequency. The resonant frequency of tungsten is the visible light frequency. That's how the electric light bulb works. We burn nutrients to maintain warm body temperature. Our body temperature is higher than the surrounding; therefore, we radiate heat away from us. Sleeping with another person, we receive and transmit FIR energy from and to each other, thus our body burns fewer nutrients to maintain body temperature. Have you seen advertisements for products such as coral calcium or alkaline
water that are supposed to neutralize acid in your bloodstream? Taking calcium
or drinking alkaline water does not affect blood acidity. Anyone who tells you
that certain foods or supplements make your stomach or blood acidic does not
understand nutrition.

You should not believe that it matters whether foods are acidic or alkaline,
because no foods change the acidity of anything in your body except your urine.
Your stomach is so acidic that no food can change its acidity. Citrus fruits,
vinegar, and vitamins such as ascorbic acid or folic acid do not change the
acidity of your stomach or your bloodstream. An entire bottle of calcium pills
or antacids would not change the acidity of your stomach for more than a few
minutes.

All foods that leave your stomach are acidic. Then they enter your intestines
where secretions from your pancreas neutralize the stomach acids. So no matter what you eat, the food in stomach is
acidic and the food in the intestines is alkaline.

You cannot change the acidity of any part of your body except your urine. Your
bloodstream and organs control acidity in a very narrow range. Anything that
changed acidity in your body would make you very sick and could even kill you.
Promoters of these products claim that cancer cells cannot live in an alkaline
environment and that is true, but neither can any of the other cells in your
body.

All chemical reactions in your body are started by chemicals called enzymes. For
example, if you convert chemical A to chemical B and release energy, enzymes
must start these reactions. All enzymes function in a very narrow range of
acidity. (The degree of acidity or alkalinity is expressed as "pH."). If your
blood changes its acidity or alkalinity for any reason, it is quickly changed
back to the normal pH or these enzymes would not function and the necessary
chemical reactions would not proceed in your body.

For example, when you hold your breath, carbon dioxide accumulates in your
bloodstream very rapidly and your blood turns acidic, and you will become
uncomfortable or even pass out. This forces you to start breathing again
immediately, and the pH returns to normal. If your kidneys are damaged and
cannot regulate the acidity of your bloodstream, chemical reactions stop,
poisons accumulate in your bloodstream, and you can die.

Certain foods can leave end-products called ash that can make your urine acid or
alkaline, but urine is the only body fluid that can have its acidity changed by
food or supplements. ALKALINE-ASH FOODS include fresh fruit and raw vegetables.
ACID-ASH FOODS include ALL ANIMAL PRODUCTS, whole grains, beans and other seeds.
These foods can change the acidity of your urine, but that's irrelevant since
your urine is contained in your bladder and does not affect the pH of any other
part of your body.

When you take in more protein than your body needs, your body cannot store it, so the excess amino acids are converted to organic acids that would
acidify your blood. But your blood never becomes acidic because as soon as the
proteins are converted to organic acids, calcium leaves your bones to neutralize
the acid and prevent any change in pH. Because of this, many scientists think
that taking in too much protein may weaken bones to cause osteoporosis.

Cranberries have been shown to help prevent recurrent urinary tract infections,
but not because of their acidity. They contain chemicals that prevent bacteria
from sticking to urinary tract cells.

Taking calcium supplements or drinking alkaline water will not change the pH of
your blood. If you hear someone say that your body is too acidic and you should
use their product to make it more alkaline, you would be wise not to believe
anything else the person tells you.

Alkaline Water and Stomach Acid

Among the people who question the validity of alkaline water, the biggest
question is, "What happens to the alkaline water once it reaches the stomach,
which is highly acidic?" People who have some knowledge of the human body,
including medical doctors, ask this question. Let me answer that question once
and for all to erase any doubts about the health benefits of alkaline water.

In order to digest food and kill the kinds of bacteria and viruses that come
with the food, the inside of our stomach is acidic. The stomach pH value is
maintained at around 4. When we eat food and drink water, especially alkaline
water, the pH value inside the stomach goes up. When this happens, there is a
feedback mechanism in our stomach to detect this and commands the stomach wall
to secrete more hydrochloric acid into the stomach to bring the pH value back to
4. So the stomach becomes acidic again. When we drink more alkaline water, more
hydrochloric acid is secreted to maintain the stomach pH value. It seems like a losing battle.

However, when you understand how the stomach wall makes hydrochloric acid, your
concerns will disappear. A pathologist friend of mine gave me the following
explanation. There is no hydrochloric acid pouch in our body. If there were, it
would burn a hole in our body. The cells in our stomach wall must produce it on
an instantly-as-needed basis. The ingredients in the stomach cell that make
hydrochloric acid (HCl) are carbon dioxide (CO2), water (H2O), and sodium
chloride (NaCl) or potassium chloride (KCl). NaCl + H2O + CO2 = HCl + NaHCO3, or

KCl + H2O + CO2 = HCl + KHCO3

As we can see, the byproduct of making hydrochloric acid is sodium bicarbonate
(NaHCO3) or potassium bicarbonate (KHCO3), which goes into blood stream. These
bicarbonates are the alkaline buffers that neutralize excess acids in the blood;
they dissolve solid acid wastes into liquid form. As they neutralize the solid
acidic wastes, extra carbon dioxide is released, which is discharged through the lungs. As our body gets old, these alkaline buffers get low;
this phenomenon is called acidosis. This is a natural occurrence as our body
accumulates more acidic waste products. There is, therefore, a relationship
between the aging process and the accumulation of acids.

By looking at the pH value of the stomach alone, it seems that alkaline water
never reaches the body. But when you look at the whole body, there is a net gain
of alkalinity as we drink alkaline water. Our body cells are slightly alkaline.
In order for them to produce acid, they must also produce alkaline, and vice
versa; just as a water ionizer cannot produce alkaline water without producing
acid water, since tap water is almost neutral.

When the stomach pH value gets higher than 4, the stomach knows what to do to
lower it. However, if the pH value goes below 4, for any reason, the stomach
doesn't know what to do. That's why we take Alka-Seltzer, which is alkaline, to
relieve acidic stomach gas pain. In this case, hydrochloric acid is not produced by the stomach wall, therefore, no alkaline buffer
is being added to the blood stream.

Let me give you another example of a body organ that produces acid in order to
produce alkaline. After the food in the stomach is digested, it must come out to
the small intestine. The food at this point is so acidic that it will damage the
intestine wall. In order to avoid this problem, the pancreas makes alkaline
juice (known as pancreatic juice). This juice is sodium bicarbonate, and is
mixed with the acidic food coming out of the stomach. From the above formulae,
in order to produce bicarbonates, the pancreas must make hydrochloric acid,
which goes into our blood stream.

We experience sleepiness after a big meal (not during the meal or while the food
is being digested in the stomach), when the digested food is coming out of the
stomach; that's the time when hydrochloric acid goes into our blood.
Hydrochloric acid is the main ingredient in antihistamines and that is what
causes drowsiness.

Alkaline or acid produced by the body must have an equal and opposite acid or
alkaline produced by the body; therefore, there is no net gain. However,
alkaline supplied from outside the body, like drinking alkaline water, results
in a net gain of alkalinity in our body.
